Al Harrington Spurns Dallas For Denver

Anyone that has ever watched Al Harrington play knows the guy can ball. With career averages of 14.1 points and 5.8 rebounds, any contender could use him. But while most people assumed he’d settle into a sixth man role on a playoff team – most notably in Dallas or Orlando – he couldn’t turn down the offer that Denver presented him: the chance to be their starting power forward. Oh yeah, and a five-year, $34 million commitment didn’t hurt. Read More »

DimeTV: Trevor Ariza’s Offseason Training

Hoops fans in Los Angeles have had a lot to celebrate about lately. Not only did the Lakers polish off the Celtics in a contested Game 7 – one that looked more like this year’s NCAA title game than a high-scoring NBA run – but they are looking down the barrel of a three-peat next season. The biggest difference (and trending topic) between L.A.’s past two ‘chips: the free agency swap of Ron Artest and Trevor Ariza with the Houston Rockets. Read More »

The Gun Show

J.R. Smith (photo. Mark Mann)

Tuesday was “Bring Your Real-Life NBA Player to Summer League” Day, as J.R. Smith, O.J. Mayo and J.J. Hickson suited up for the Nuggets, Grizzlies and Cavs, respectively, for a dose of authenticity. Well, kind of. While O.J. is seriously working on his point-guard skills and J.J. is fine-tuning his game as the probable starting power forward in Cleveland, J.R. was in straight clownin’ mode. The stat line says J.R. only took five shots in 15 minutes (9 pts), but trust us: He was looking to shoot every single time he got the ball. Read More »

The First Domino To Fall In Boston College’s Hoop Resurrection

Boston College

After star Rakim Sanders and potential star Brady Heslip decided to transfer from Boston College when they heard Steve Donahue would be coming to Boston, Eagles fans had a tough time staying optimistic about their future. With the great recruits Duke and North Carolina landed this season, Donahue decided to look to the future for help. His first recruit, 6-11 center Dennis Clifford who attends Milton Acedemy in Massachusetts, accepted Donahue’s offer nearly instantly. Although BC does not have any recruits in its 2010 class, this is a great start for 2011. Read More »

NBA Rumor: Tyson Chandler traded to Dallas for Erick Dampier

Tyson Chandler

Hours after a seemingly done deal sending Tyson Chandler to Toronto was squashed by Bobcats owner Michael Jordan, Chandler has been dealt again — this time to the Mavericks.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the trade has Chandler and Alexis Ajinca going to Dallas in exchange for Erick Dampier, Matt Carroll and Eduardo Najera.

After the Bobcats acquired Chandler last season in a trade for one-time franchise centerpiece Emeka Okafor, Chandler averaged 6.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks. Read More »

10 Supplement Secrets: How The Market Has Misled You

Every time I see a tub of protein powder, I cringe. The worst part is, it happens all the time. I’ll walk into one of my friends’ apartments…and there it is, on the counter…in the pantry…on top of the refrigerator. As a Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise major, I’ve learned why supplements like protein powder are not worth the money…but apparently, the word hasn’t gotten out yet. Read More »

Is There Room for Allen Iverson in the NBA?

Allen Iverson, Dime #6

For editing purposes, The Allen Iverson Story would flow so much better had we gone straight from February 1993 to Summer 2010.

In that version, we open with a phenomenally talented high school ballplayer whose hoop dreams are derailed by a moment of rage and a history of racism in the South. Then end with the same ballplayer, now an old man in sports terms, frantically trying to convince an NBA team — any NBA team — to give him a chance before his skills become just a memory.
