Fresh off his first NBA All-Star season, Zach Randolph wants a contract extension. He has one year left on his deal with Memphis at $17.3 million. He’s also a suspected drug trafficker without a great track record as a teammate and has a penchant for piling up stats on lousy teams. So basically, the Grizzlies will probably give him five years for about $75 million.

Last year, Jeremy Tyler made national headlines by deciding to forgo his senior year of high school to play pro ball overseas. The San Diego (Calif.) product, a 6-10 center who was previously committed to Louisville for the Class of 2010, ended up signing with Maccabi Haifa in Israel. But after a forgettable season that was cut short when he decided to quit, Tyler — who isn’t eligible to enter the NBA until 2011 — is now taking his talents to Japan to play for Apache Tokyo. Anthony Tolliver was one of the NBA’s pleasant surprises last season. After going undrafted out of Creighton in 2007, the 6-9, 240-pound forward played for three different D-League squads and two teams overseas before really getting a shot in the NBA. But once he go there, he sure as hell made the most of it. In 44 games with the Warriors last year, Tolliver averaged 12.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, and is looking to translate that success into a new deal. Read More »

Surprise: Kevin Durant was not among those cut from Team USA when Coach K brought out the axe yesterday. The four who were let go — O.J. Mayo, Gerald Wallace, Tyreke Evans and JaVale McGee — will not make the trip to New York City in August for the World Basketball Festival, the first exhibition games, and the final round of cuts … Tyreke was the only “sure” cut, and that was only because he hurt his ankle early in training camp and wasn’t able to participate.
