It’s never fun to be the last player in the green room on Draft Day. As a hooper, you grow up dreaming of that one moment where you will stand up proudly on stage at Madison Square Garden and pound knuckles with David Stern for the first time. Being invited to sit as a green room attendee is fun, but it can sometimes turn into a schoolyard kickball game; waiting anxiously to hear your name called by the captain. And that’s just what happened to Nevada sophomore Luke Babbitt. Read More »
I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was underwhelmed with Gordon Hayward‘s start to NBA Summer League. But thankfully the kid’s turned it around. Check out this nasty Dream Shake he pulled in yesterday’s action.
The younger son of Celtics coach Doc Rivers, Austin has agreed to give HSH and Dime exclusive access by chronicling his thoughts in a regular diary. Here’s an excerpt from his latest entry: Read More »
Kentucky ruled the first round on Draft Night with a record-breaking five first-round picks. John Calipari called it the greatest night in Kentucky hoops history, a night when Lexington blue kicked-off the top 30 frenzy and also ended it. This was a different era. It had to be. Sure, a few years back, us Cleveland sports fans knew all about Cleveland’s infamous dry spell, title-less since Jim Brown led the Browns to the AFC Championship in 1964 (not even a Super Bowl). But come on, the drought couldn’t really go on much longer…right? Yes, the Browns and Indians have been as uninspiring as of late. But, the Cavaliers had a new owner, new state-of-the-art practice facility, new colors, and most importantly, an 18-year-old that would become the best athlete, and one of the best players, to ever step on a basketball court. And, to give the story its final Hollywood touch, he was from just a few dozen miles down the road in Akron. What could be better?! It wasn’t a matter of if we were going to win a championship, but when. But, on Thursday night, in front of the millions of people, while certainly not his chief intention, LeBron James broke our hearts forever. Read More »
I often have to remind myself that the Internet world is, thankfully, not always an accurate reflection of society. Otherwise, I’d think hard about moving to rural Tanzania and living off the land. While I’ve realized the anonymity of being online allows man to channel his inner jackass without inhibition, balancing it with a dose of real life typically restores my faith in people.
But then last night, after watching “The Decision” at the Dime office and getting a taste of the predictable online reaction, I went home and was passing the crowded front stoop of my building when I overheard this: Read More »
Last night, NBA fans were given something we’ve never seen before. No, not just LeBron James‘ widely-criticized but highly-viewed “The Decision” TV special, but we saw an unprecedented collection of three superstar teammates form like the Justice League … Think about all the other “Big Three” combos: Bird, McHale and Parish were nowhere near as athletic as Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh. Jordan, Pippen and Rodman were a different bunch, consisting of one explosive scorer, one Swiss Army Knife in the flesh, and one defensive/rebounding savant. Read More »
Let’s be honest. We all get upset. But this is just a bit over the top. After LeBron James decided to head to Miami, Cavs Majority Owner Dan Gilbert decided to write an “Open Letter to Fans.” This may go down as famous as the Desiderata. Read the letter in its entirety after the jump. Read More »
