While the 10-story “We Are All Witnesses” banner in downtown Cleveland came down in a matter of days following LeBron James‘ departure from the Cavaliers, there’s still no way to tell how lasting LBJ’s impact on the franchise will be. Some would argue that LeBron “made” the Cavs and the organization will flop without him, while others say LeBron’s tenure with the team ultimately won’t matter much because he didn’t win a championship.
In the Dime office the other day we were kicking around the question: Should the Cavs retire LeBron’s No. 23 jersey? Read More »
If Cavs owner Dan Gilbert had just shown a little common sense, taken a deep breath, been realistic and admitted that his franchise will be undergoing a rebuilding process without LeBron — instead of brashly guaranteeing Cleveland would win a championship before Miami — his team’s underwhelming personnel moves wouldn’t be punchline material. Yesterday’s blockbuster brings Ramon Sessions and Ryan Hollins to the Cavs from Minnesota in exchange for Delonte West and Sebastian Telfair. Read More »
We realize it’s been All LeBron Everything on the site for the latter part of the day, but that’s what you get on perhaps the slowest NBA news day of the summer. But hot off the press, check out UNDRCRWN‘s new “King” tee. Starting today, they’ll be selling a limited run on their site, so don’t sleep! While LeBron James is taking some time away from USA Basketball this summer, that doesn’t mean he’s going to skip out on the trip to Vegas. So Friday night, the King celebrated with a few of his friends at the Italian restaurant LAVO. Joined by Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, Rudy Gay, Rajon Rondo, Chauncey Billups, Josh Smith and Larry Hughes, the crew ate dinner and hit the club. But check out the custom cake that LeBron was presented from Las Vegas confectioners Gimme Some Sugar. Crazy. Read More »
Chris Paul said on Twitter today that he wants to represent the Hornets and New Orleans for years. While Paul said that immediately after his meeting with the Hornets’ brass, his frustration with the team is clearly growing, and I think his comments recently have set the wheels in motion for him being traded. Paul is arguably a top-five player in the League, and although loved by teammates and fans alike, New Orleans would be smart to trade the face of their franchise. Read More »
By the time the Chicago Bulls hear the Alan Parsons Project creeping from the United Center speakers, or the Boston Celtics hear Eminem‘s “You Don’t Know” pumping through the Garden for pre-game intros, the players are already as hyped up as they’re going to get.
Just about every NBA player — except Paul Millsap, who told me once that he doesn’t listen to music at all, period — spends the hours and minutes before a game with headphones covering their ears, bumping their preferred pre-game music. Read More »
When Banri “Bang” Takenouchi (Photo, right) moved from Japan to the United States roughly five years ago, he did so with one intention: play basketball in tournaments across New York City. Through a love for basketball and passion for the game, a player Bang once idolized has become one of his best friends.
“I was watching his street videos in Japan, and I emailed him,” says Bang. “I feel like he’s my big brother now.”
Garcia speaks from experience when he describes the challenges of “making it” as an unknown. Read More »
