DimeTV: Sacramento Kings Rookie Hassan Whiteside Juggling

I told you that this was the place to be. During my interview with Sacramento Kings rookie Hassan Whiteside, when I asked him one thing that most people don’t know about him, he told me that he could juggle. It wasn’t that I didn’t believe him, but I definitely wanted to see. While I looked around for some tennis balls or something, he told me he could actually juggle basketballs. Check it out.

Clippers unveil new uniforms

It’s always interesting to see which players an NBA franchise chooses to model its new uniforms for the first time. Typically it’s a face-of-the-franchise type, or a younger guy with some personality — and ideally you have both of those elements wrapped in one. Blake Griffin was a no-brainer as the Clippers unveiled their new look this week, but the second spot went to DeAndre Jordan. Does this mean Jordan is considered a vital piece to the Clips’ future? Or does he just have the most Twitter followers of anybody on the team? Read More »

T-Wolves unveil new uniforms

Minnesota Timberwolves

How do you sell tickets when you’re three years removed from trading away the best player your franchise has ever had, and then trading away the best player you got in THAT trade for almost nothing? If you’re the Minnesota Timberwolves, you slightly change your uniforms. Even the Wolves website describes the new look as simply a “tweak.” What do you think? Read More »

Utah Jazz unveil new uniforms

Utah Jazz

With Karl Malone and John Stockton getting inducted into the Hall of Fame each of the last two years, nostalgia is running wild in Utah these days. By coincidence or not, the Jazz have unveiled their new uniforms for next season, which harken back to the old days of Stockton and Malone and Darrell “Dr. Dunkenstein” Griffith. What do you think? Basketball Without Borders: The NBA’s future has no positions

Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant has seen the future, and it is … him. Or something close to him. Speaking to the media during his World Basketball Festival appearance at Harlem’s Rucker Park last weekend, Kobe said the influence of international players in the NBA has helped create a “hybrid” culture, where players of all sizes possess skills in all areas and can conceiveably play any position on the floor.

“That’s the one difference I’d like to see us kind of shift to,” Kobe said.

This vision of five basketball players, devoid of traditional positional constraints, passing and cutting and posting and shooting and dribbling with equal aplomb, is near. Read More »

Dime #58: LeBron vs. The World

LeBron James

Thanks to the Radio City Music Hall marquee operator and a few too many loose lips close to the process, the “surprise” Jay-Z concert to cap Day 1 of the World Basketball Festival wasn’t much of a surprise to the observant attendee.

No, what ended up being the surprise of the night was how LeBron James was received by the New York City crowd inside the iconic theater.

If you’ve consumed any sports media at all since July 8, you’d get the impression that Everybody Hates LeBron. From reaction to “The Decision” to responses aimed at his recent Twitter post vowing revenge on his critics, LeBron had seemingly turned himself into the NBA’s foremost villain. Read More »

Dime Exclusive: Elliot Williams Wins Rookie NBA JAM Tourney

NBA JAM Rookie Gaming Tourney

With the NBA Rookie Photo Shoot taking place at the Knicks’ practice facility today, all of the rookies were in town for the festivities. So what happens when a bunch of 20 something year-olds have nothing to do on a Monday night? A video game tournament transpires. And luckily for them, EA Sports was in the house to hold them down.

After much deliberation, the eight-person bracket was filled out, and Dime was the only media outlet in the room (let alone a 30-mile radius) to watch it all go down. While one flatscreen had guys playing the new NBA Elite 11, the other one for the tourney was all about NBA JAM. Read on to see what happened. Read More »

T-Mac: I won’t dunk on you, but I’ll give you buckets

OK, somebody with an NBA rulebook clear this up for us: Is there still a dress code or not? We were under the impression that any time a player is “on business” he has to dress according to the code, but over the last couple of seasons we’ve seen guys arriving at the arena and sitting on the bench wearing stuff that should’ve drawn fines and nobody said anything. And it’s not like it’s just the young dudes. Yesterday, T-Mac had his introductory press conference with the Pistons — that counts as “on business,” right? — and our man showed up in a white tee.
