We mentioned it in Smack this morning, but figured we’d give you a little more detail into what actually went down yesterday in President Barack Obama‘s pickup game. As you can see from the picture, Chicago’s Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah got the invite, but who else was selected for Obama’s personal Dream Team? Read More »
If you don’t know the name Quincy Miller yet, get familiar. At adidas Nations this past weekend in Chicago, the rising senior threw down the ridiculous dunk on the Italian team. Check it out below.
It’s like there’s no middle ground: NBA teams either make decisions that seemingly take no forethought (e.g. New York re-hiring Isiah Thomas and subsequently pissing off Donnie Walsh), or they overthink decisions that should be easy. The most recent example of that? Detroit still mulling whether or not to sign Tracy McGrady. Why wouldn’t Joe Dumars make the move? From everything we’re hearing it’s a one-year, vet-minimum contract, so no risk there. It’s not like you’re throwing off the chemistry of a championship-contending group. Read More »
It’s easy to see that the Red Bull 2-on-2 Revolution tour is picking up steam as it snakes its way down the East Coast. In the tournament’s fourth stop, Baltimore’s Cloverdale Park (where Carmelo Anthony honed his game growing up), teams from New Jersey and Philadelphia showed up, and the championship game featured Team Boston — who is actually from Baltimore.
The semifinals had an all-Philly matchup on one court, with an all-B’more contest going on the opposite court. In the Philly-Baltimore final, No Mercy, composed of Philly natives Tyrone “Redz” Hill and DeSean White, walked away with the $2,000 check, Skull Candy headphones and Kicker iPod stereos. Read More »
Despite the fact Dirk Nowitzki signed a new four-year contract with the Mavericks this summer, the realistic oddsmaker knows Dallas’ championship window for the Dirk era only has a couple of years left — if it hasn’t been slammed shut already by the likes of Tim Duncan, Dwyane Wade and Baron Davis — before it’s officially rebuilding time. The Mavs took another hit this weekend, as rising star Rodrigue Beaubois broke his left foot while playing for Team France, a setback in the young guard’s development. Read More »
If he keeps his two current jobs for a few years — and if we’ve learned anything about Isiah Thomas, it’s that he knows how to get (and stay) on his boss’ good side — then Zeke will eventually be the only college basketball coach in the country who can recruit the same superstars at least two different times. The New York Knicks have brought Isiah back into the fold, officially introducing him yesterday as a part-time consultant, where part of his duties include recruiting free agents. Read More »
If you were out in Los Angeles last year for the Nike 3-on-3 Tournament, then you saw one of the best dunk contests ever produced. And that was just two dunkers! This Saturday, right in front of the Staples Center at L.A. Live, has the potential to be the greatest slam dunk contest ever held. For real. Werm and T-Dub are coming off their victories in the NBA’s Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, while Golden Child and Jus Fly have been destroying competition all summer. Oh yeah, and there’s also some guy named James White who was just added to the field. (Unfortunately, he’s not in the preview video below.) After this contest, I think we can pretty much crown the “Best Dunker in the World.”
For a few months — or really, ever since he was supposedly let go from his position with the New York Knicks a couple years ago — we’d been hearing that Isiah Thomas was still part of the brain(?)trust in NY’s front office.
Today it’s official: The Knicks sent out a press release announcing that Isiah has been named a part-time consultant. Read More »
With college basketball schedules slowly being released, it is time to start looking ahead to the NCAA season. While every team from reigning national champion Duke to D-1 newcomers like Seattle U feels they have something to prove each year, these are five teams that have the most to prove this season: Read More »
