Let me warn you before you continue reading: The following list is not filled with future All-Stars or Hall of Famers. At this stage in the game, if you’re still a free agent, you’re most likely looking for an NBA roster spot before you have to settle for an overseas gig. But with that in mind, there are still some talented players – under the age of 25 – that are worth the minimal investment for the potential future payoff. I’m not saying sign them to a five-year, $34 million like the Raptors did with 23-year-old Amir Johnson, but you get the picture. Anybody who grew up in New York City in the late-’80s and early-’90s has a soft spot in their heart for Kenny Anderson and EPMD. One of the greatest high school point guards of all-time, Anderson was a three-time All-American at Archbishop Malloy H.S. in Queens before taking Georgia Tech to the Final Four and playing 14 years in the NBA. In this day and age, it’s somewhat unfathomable to see star athletes to leave big money on the table. And in Carmelo Anthony‘s situation, especially with an impending lockout on the horizon. But while everyone gets up in arms about players switching teams, the beauty of the contract is that the players have the ultimate control. That’s why you can’t get mad at LeBron for turning down more money in Cleveland in favor of Miami; and why you can’t get mad when ‘Melo leaves the Nuggets next summer. Read More »
