The final stop on the Red Bull 2on2 Revolution tour showcased the deepest talent pool of the summer. Between D.C. playground legends Andrew “SpongeBob” Washington and Omar Weaver, overseas pros like Isaiah Swann, and defending 2on2 champions from Philly and Baltimore, it was a perfect way to cap the summer run. Among high school and college basketball fans, the name Sonny Vaccaro rings bells nationwide. The noted power-broker has been attached to prep stars from Kobe Bryant to Brandon Jennings — he was basically Worldwide Wes before Worldwide Wes, but on an even more recognizable level within the industry’s structure.

I honestly don’t even remember this game. But as a Sonics fan, maybe I blocked it from my memory. In the first round of the 2000 playoffs, Karl Malone dumped 50 points on Seattle in Game 1 of the series (18-32 FG, 13-14 FT) to go with 12 boards and 3 steals. I wish I could tell you why Lazaro Borrell was starting at PF that night for us and Vin Baker came off the bench, but I doubt it would have made a difference who guarded The Mailman on this night.
If you don’t see it in the upcoming FIBA World Championship, you’ll no doubt see it countless times during the NBA and college basketball season: Your team is up by three points in the final seconds, the bad guys have the ball, and going into that last possession, the question is whether or not your team should foul.
