I’d hate to be a guy in the NBA who is known more as an expiring contact than a player. Remember back when Theo Ratliff had a big deal? His name was getting tossed around more than a hacky sack at Bonnaroo. So while every team is trying to piece together rosters for next season, there are certain players that will most likely not make it through the year without having to find a new apartment. Without further ado, here are the NBA’s Top 15 Expiring Contracts. Read More »
Since I’m guessing the Denver Nuggets won’t take my advice and keep Carmelo Anthony this season, and the list of rumored destinations for ‘Melo grows by the week, it’s time to explore what the Nuggets can do trade-wise to get something close to equal value in return for the man who’s been their franchise centerpiece for the last seven years.
Although I still believe ‘Melo ultimately ends up in New York, recent rumors have gained momentum that he has the Houston Rockets at or near the top of his wish list of teams with which he’d sign a long-term extension following a trade. How exactly would ‘Melo end up in Houston, though? Read More »
For the basketball-starved among us tired of reading free agency and trade rumors, this summer’s biggest on-court hoops event is finally ready to tip-off. The FIBA World Championship (Aug. 28-Sept. 12) brings 24 international teams together for two weeks in Turkey to fight for gold medals, global bragging rights, and an automatic spot in the 2012 Olympics in London.
In Dime #58 we previewed the World Championship with 10 teams to watch, but since our press time, injuries and roster tweaks have given the field a different look. Here is the updated WC primer: Read More »
It has to be tough being an NBA superstar. You know, never being able to go anywhere without people wanting to talk to you or get your autograph. But I guess it’s just all part of the game. But when guys go to visit the city they grew up in, multiply that times a million. With that said, you can understand why Dwyane Wade – a.k.a. “Gordon” – recently went undercover at Dick’s Sporting Goods back in Chicago to talk about the new Gatorade G Series Pro. Check out the following videos that were gathered from hidden cameras throughout the store. Hilarious!
Leave it to the WWE guy to bring the hyperbole. Immediately after Team USA beat Greece in its last exhibition game before the World Championship, WWE-turned-ESPN talking head Jonathan “The Coach” Coachman looked right into the camera and said, “Team USA looking very sharp!” So we’re guessing he wasn’t counting the 17 turnovers, the 7-for-28 shooting outside the arc, or that the U.S. made Greek big man Kostas Tsartsaris (24 pts, 9-12 FG) look like a lighter, hairy, slightly less sweaty Patrick Ewing … But that’s all nit-picking. At the end of the day, it was a dominating 28-point rout for the Americans, who were led by Derrick Rose (13 pts) and Eric Gordon (18 pts, 4 threes). Read More »
If you haven’t already noticed, Foot Locker has created a series of videos that really bring to life the sneaker obsession that we all feel everyday. From “The Educators” featuring Rajon Rondo and Amar’e Stoudemire to the provocative “Art Class” short, all the videos are part of their Fall advertising campaign aptly titled “It’s A Sneaker Thing.” But of all the ads, it seems that people have been feeling this one the most. Everything but her shoes…
Granted, he hasn’t played an official regular-season game yet. But it would be fair to say Blake Griffin is one of the best overall athletes at the power forward position in the NBA. Standing 6-10 and weighing 250 pounds, Blake possesses enough vertical to own a McDonald’s H.S. All-American dunk contest crown, and enough strength to post the top bench-press score of any 2009 NBA draftee at the pre-draft camp. And he put those tools together to drop 22.7 points and 14.4 rebounds per game in his last season at Oklahoma. Read More »
College football is right around the corner, which means one thing: College basketball isn’t far behind. Whenever the attention of the football-mad SEC turns to basketball, one of the conference standouts will be Arkansas guard Rotnei Clarke, one of the best outside shooters in the country and a candidate for All-SEC. Clarke is featured in Dime #58, available on newsstands now: Read More »
