Clip of the Day: 7-year-old rapper P-Nut is blowing up in Memphis
Oddly enough, just about an hour ago I saw a kid in the office elevator who looked exactly like LaTarian Milton, a.k.a. the “Smokes Wit’ Cigawettes” kid of YouTube fame. Then I see this in my e-mail inbox: A candidate to be the next YouTube ‘hood sensation. Meet P-Nut, a 7-year-old MC from Memphis. Judge the rhyming for yourself, but the kid at least looks like a mini-version of Eazy-E.

Chicagorilla says:
that superman line sounded like some Gucci Mane stuff. This kid actually has real talent and shouldn’t follow that lame format that Gucci does. Somebody get him some OutKast Cds, Big KRIT, Currensy, or B.O.B. Somebody that has lyrical content.
Like how he said he’s “letting off steam” when he raps. hahaha, I like that.

Three Stacks says:
Ahhaha the kid got no flow but that’s to be expected from a 7 yr old. He’ll be good if he keeps at it, kid seems passionate about it though.
The funniest thing about it is if I were blind and the kid had a deeper voice, he sounded like every other rapper out there. Every rap interview sounds the same: Tell em how you’re creative and you’re grateful for your gift, say you wanna show the fans what you got, and thank God/Allah/Vishnu for everything.

I love how a kid who is in grade 2 is telling people to stay in school if they want to achieve their dreams. I don’t disagree with the message and shit, but I kind of find it funny some kid who hasn’t even really started school is trying to send that message out there.

WinDelRoj says:
Unfortunately the difference between this kids flow and that of every other rapper out there is almost non existant. The vocabulary is the same and the rhyme technique standard. Thats not really to knock the kid, thats just knocking on the stuff that gets play.

Kermit The Washington says:
This is hilarious. Not just because he’s a little rapping 7-year-old, which is hilarious in and of itself, but his INTERVIEW was awesome! He sounds JUST like grown-men rappers, which when you think about it, makes THEM sound like 7-year-old kids.

every rapper sounds like this 7 year old kid…so when the kid gets like 16 he will have 4 times the vocab that they do. his dad needs his ass whupped for putting him out like that but at least he tried to find a way to get his son to learn…damnit keep this kid in school.

now i know theres gotta be muslims checkin out dimemag, but for those who dont know- this kid is leading ramadan prayers and reciting the quran from heart using rules of recitation that takes several years to memorize/internalize… imo definitely impressive to anyone regardless of being muslim/nonmuslim

KyBaller says:
I think his dad should be commended. As an educator I see the difference in how “some” young african-american and other cultures of color learn better utilizing music and rythym. Now the “rap career” should be the carrot on the stick…stay in school (like a 2nd grader has a choice), do the right things and you can pursue this passion. You don’t and oyur career is cut REAL short. I agree he did sound like most of these so-called “adult” rappers in their interviews but that speaks to his vocab as well as the lacking of theirs. And the Superman line, crazy! I agree with a poster above about he should look to some more lyrically strong role models for his career…I admit I am a East Coast fan myself so I have my choices but won’t post so as to not start a rap war here on DIME. But a young man with a passion and drive in 2nd grade…way ahead of some of us right now…imjussayintho’

DH says:
This is embarrassing for everyone involved.
His parents should be ashamed of themselves for exploiting their child. I wonder how much they encourage him to do homework, go outside and play or just be a normal 7 year old?
The news should be embarrassed because they’re only encouraging this kid.
I guess the kid shouldn’t be embarrassed because he doesn’t know any better.
And I wonder what his back up plan is for when rapping inevitably doesn’t work out. My guess is he has none and will focus his entire life trying to do this. His parents probably will give all their attention to this rap career too.
What a shame…this kid never had a chance.

TD says:
@ DH – Agreed
This is some clown shit, what can a 7 year old know about real life, and his parents have been puttin him on since he was 4. Seriously?!?!? Memphis is in trouble if this shit makes the news.
