Heat Wave: NBA’s Top 10 Scoring Performances Of The Year

It’s early September, and arguably hotter than it’s been all summer. I’ll even go as far as saying it’s too hot to play ball outside. Thankfully, the indoor gyms have opened for college students since it’s that time of year again. But one thing the recent heat wave has inspired us to do is honor the Top 10 scoring performances of the regular season with accompanying videos.

10. Stephen Curry Drops 42
Scoring 40-plus is not an easy task, especially in your rookie year. Curry manages to overcome the 40-plus plateau along with a near triple double, finishing with nine boards and eight assists to go along with 12-12 from the stripe and 4-6 from three-point range. Impressive performance for a rookie, and second-highest scoring outing by a rookie in the 2009-10 season.

9. Luis Scola Drops 44
I don’t know if anyone expected Scola to score 40-plus points, but he was on fire. And they kept feeding him. Scola shot a remarkable 80 percent (20-25 from the field) and brought down 12 boards as well. Great performance, although it was against the Nets…

8. Carmelo Anthony Drops 40, LeBron James Drops 43
This just may have been the best game of the 2009-10 season. LeBron had Cleveland firing on all cylinders fresh off of a 12-game winning streak at home, as they were looking to make it 13. The battle between the two superstars heated up in the late third when the two would take the challenge of guarding each other. ‘Bron and ‘Melo were both on fire. They would match each other’s buckets until O.T. where Carmelo got the last laugh, putting LeBron and the Cavs’ 12-game winning streak to a screeching halt with a mid-range game-winner. Is it me, or did LeBron look like he was ready to tear up after this loss?

7. Kevin Durant Drops 45, Deron Williams Drops 42
Definitely one of the most, if not the most, exciting game of the season. This regular season game had the intensity of a Game 7 in the Western Conference Finals. Deron had his team looking impossible to stop, while Durant was simply en fuego, shooting from everywhere. The thriller would ultimately end with D-Will hitting a game-winning shot with 1.1 seconds left. If you ask me, Durant should have headed to the stripe for three on that last play…

6. LeBron Drops 47
‘Bron drops the Knicks off for 40-plus again. What else is new…

5. LeBron Drops 48
The King was just in that type of mood in this game, and rightfully so seeing how it was his birthday. He made it look so easy, as if he could really score whenever he wanted in this 48-point performance on 15-23 shooting. This outing was the fifth highest scoring performance of the season.

4. Vince Carter Drops 48
VC shoots 19-27 from the floor and 6-10 from beyond the arc, all just to prove that he’s still got it. This was the fourth best scoring outing of the year.

3. Carmelo Drops 50
It seems as if the Knicks are always the butt of the NBA’s jokes. I’m pretty sure the NBA’s elite scorers all mark their games against New York on their calendars as a day to improve those scoring averages – especially LeBron. But this time it was ‘Melo who took advantage of the Knicks’ lack of defensive efforts.

2. Andre Miller Drops 52
I don’t think anyone expected this to happen. Andre Miller has never really been considered a high scorer, but this 52-point performance was a heat wave if I’ve ever seen one. Miller was dialed in, shooting 71 percent (22-31 from the field and 1-1 from three point land) for this one. The rim must have seemed like an ocean to him, because it seemed as if everything he was putting up was going in.

1. Brandon Jennings Drops 55
The No. 1 Heat Wave performance of the 2009-10 season goes to none other than the “Young Buck” known as Brandon Jennings. Jennings shot 21-34 from the floor and an incredible 7-8 from three along with five rebounds and five assists in one of the most remarkable performances by a rookie in NBA history. It’s very rare to see a rookie score 50-plus, and Jennigs made it look easy. He got off to a late start, and after the first it’s safe to say nobody expected him to score that many points. Jennings proved that his potential is sky high and only he is in control of how close he comes to reaching his full potential. He’s earned the green light, now what will he do with it?

Curry shouldve been ON Jennings for that game considering they were both rookies.. id have tried my hardest gettin in his head with some rough D.. aint no other rookie coming into my house droppin that kinda shit on me lol

  3. Heckler says:

vince carter had a 48pt game last year?
    SHIT. who knew.

that must have been the QUIETEST 48pts in league history!

  4. LakeShow84 says:

    @ Heckler

Nah it wasnt because thats when everyone was talkin that “Oh Vince got it figured out now” nonsense lol

Even the VC supporters came out the woods for a day..

  5. Kudabeen says:

    @Heckler

Actually it was kind of a big deal when vince dropped that 48, because it was following a big slump for him and everyone questioning his remaining skill…It was like shot out the gate and ran out of gas for a sec…then he crushed the Hornets and got it going again.

I guess it was just a blip on the regular season radar, but it was a important storyline for a sec in the bball world.

This cat on YouTube I saw a while back had the best chronicle of Vince’s season MaxAMilliion I think his tag is…search if you care…

  6. Ross says:

Kobe’s 60+ at the garden? I see a few problems with this one.

  7. Whodatis says:

Got fuckin damn when Vinces game is on, its looks so got damn fluid..with this past season its easy to see how people forget how Vince is an offensive beast..I honestly dont think magic’s system with all those shooters gives Vince the free range to this shit every night..guys like Wade,KObe,Bron,Durant have that greenlight, cuz they dont have as many, plus Dwight would feel left out I guess..Oh well hope Vince bounces back this year…Oh the carmelo vs bron was it for me too..although there stats were similar, but it was clear to see Carmelo had the upper hand throughout the game, dat dagger he hit over bron was priceless…

  8. Rizwan says:

    @ Ross

That was from the season before last!

  9. Celts Fan says:

    @ross – that was 08-09 I think.

  10. bobby stew says:

Luis Scola seems like a real humble guy that just goes to work and plays hard. He doesn’t rely on athleticism at all which will benefit him in the long run

  11. Crew Dizzy says:

Man watching this makes me fiend for the NBA. The Mavs should be ashamed for letting Andre Miller go for 52. That Cavs/nuggets game was the best regular season game of the year in my book. Melo is a beast.

  12. RC says:

    MELO

  13. CTP says:

Annoyed with people still talking about Durants foul at the end of the game. THE NBA DOESN’T CALL FOULS AT THE BUZZER. EVER. Get use to it!

  14. Buckets says:

    Attn: CTP….
I guess u don’t watch much NBA cuz they call fouls at the end of the game, just against the worst of the NBA. I mean damn, the Warriors had 3 against them this past season!

“know tha game b4 u speak!”

  15. oo wee says:

a foul in the first quarter should be still be a foul in the fourth quarter.

i remember that melo/lebron game. carmelo is an offensive ninja. he still needs to step it up in the other areas of the game in order to be in the elite kobe, lebron, wade level

  16. oo wee says:

    durant too.

  17. oo wee says:

it would be cool if we could edit our posts.

Honorable Mention to Rodrigue Beaubois. 40pt that went from nowhere.

  19. mytiman says:
