Lakers’ Day 1 of three-peat run; Carmelo wants to stay in Denver?

Kobe Bryant

It was either Day 1 of training camp or Media Day for a lot of NBA teams yesterday, and the biggest story lines were easy to point out. In L.A., Kobe and the two-time defending champs held their first on-court session, which aired on NBA TV. In Miami, the LeBron-Wade-Bosh era kicked off with the Heat’s first practice. In Boston, the new-look/old-age Celtics posed for pictures and Shaq said some funny things. But everybody’s attention was fixed on Denver, where the Nuggets held Media Day and Carmelo Anthony faced down reporters ready to ask him the same 4 questions in about 44,000 different ways … Read More »

Derrick Rose: “Why can’t I be MVP?”

Derrick Rose (photo. Chad Griffith)

We’ve all read the book on Derrick Rose: If He Develops An Outside Jumper, He’s Gonna Be a Problem. (Foreword by Kevin Johnson.)

Well, D-Rose has apparently improved his shot over the summer — although he only hit 27 percent of his tries during the FIBA World Championship, he did look more confident and smoother taking those threes — and now he’s thinking in beast-mode. Read More »

We Reminisce: Gilbert Arenas Gives Kobe 60 In L.A.

Today marked Gilbert Arenas‘ first public comments since his sentencing last March. And from everything we’ve heard and read, he’s a changed man. But with all the hype about this being John Wall‘s team before he’s even entered training camp, take a minute and watch Gil drop a franchise record 60 (17-32 FGs, 5-12 3pt FGs, 21-27 FTs) along with eight rebounds and eight assists on Kobe and the Lakers back in December of 2006.

Dime’s 2010 NBA Free Agent Tracker

Rudy Gay

Just how many NBA free agents were on the market this summer? Put it this way: Even if two of the three best players in the world hadn’t been part of the pool — i.e., LeBron James and Dwyane Wade — 2010 would still qualify as the most important free agent class in League history. Looking at the NBA before the signing bonanza, most teams only had a handful of players actually under contract, while everyone else was either looking for work or having work come find them.

So if you need help keeping up, we’ve got your back. Read More »

Dr. J, God Shammgod & Jim Jones Highlight Sick New Converse Ad

It’s been a minute sine Converse had national TV ads running, so when they launched their new Fall 2010 brand campaign entitled “The Procession” last night, you knew they’d come correct. NBA Rumor: Bucks, Blazers, Raptors & Rockets Battle Over Free Agent Center

When you look at just his career numbers – 7.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game – Erick Dampier‘s 14-year NBA career doesn’t look all that great. But when you peek at the list of available free agents as training camps begin, there are no other decent almost 7-foot centers out there. That’s why after talks with the Heat fell through, more than a few teams have being blowing up Damp’s cell. Read More »
