First we heard that the proposed four-team trade sending Carmelo Anthony to the Nets was pretty much a done deal. Then when nothing materialized by EOB Friday, we heard that ‘Melo was basically given the weekend to decide if he would sign a three-year extension with New Jersey/Brooklyn.
Now that the weekend has passed and ‘Melo is still scheduled to appear at Denver Nuggets Media Day today, the four-team deal is still alive, but may be undergoing some changes. Read More »

Last call for last-minute entries into the Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes. While the NBA world waits to see if the Nuggets pull the trigger on the four-team deal that would send ‘Melo to the Nets, at least one new team is getting into the mix. The Sixers have reportedly pitched a scenario where Andre Iguodala would go to Denver as part of a package for ‘Melo … Philly has never been on any of Anthony’s wish lists, but he could do a lot worse in finding a new home. It’s a major East Coast media market, it’s not that far from NYC, and the Sixers’ future prospects are looking good. Read More »

BREAKING NEWS: Kobe Bryant and LeBron James are really popular. The NBA released its latest jersey sales figures from China, and once again Kobe and LeBron hold the #1 and #2 spots, respectively. Dwight Howard is 3rd, jumping Kevin Garnett (4th) from last year. Derrick Rose is 5th, followed by Chris Paul, Paul Pierce, Deron Williams, Ray Allen and Kevin Durant to wrap up the Top 10. T-Mac was 4th last year, but didn’t make the Top 10 this time around … Read More »

In a summer where the NBA was turned on its side by the free-agency decisions of LeBron, D-Wade, Chris Bosh, Amar’e and others, the now (reportedly) imminent trade of Carmelo Anthony will change so much more in a League that is hardly recognizable from the one we last saw in June … According to the New York Daily News, last time we checked, ‘Melo has given his OK (in that he promised to sign an extension with his new team) for a four-team trade that would send him to the Nets. If I were Kenyon Martin or Kevin Garnett, I would be attending an anger management class as soon as possible. According to reports from ESPN, the NBA is cracking down on players who plan on arguing calls. The referees are receiving a whole new set of rules to follow when it comes to issuing technical fouls.
Players are going to have to think twice before they decide to argue with the refs. Here are the new rules regarding what can constitute a tech: Read More »

The biggest winner from the Cleveland Cavaliers’ last-ditch effort to keep LeBron James in town turned out to be Andray Blatche.
When the Cavs acquired Antawn Jamison from the Washington Wizards around last February’s trade deadline — a move expected to put the Cavs over the top as a championship caliber squad — it opened the door for Blatche to take the starting power forward job in D.C. and run with it. Read More »

Ask JaMarcus Russell or Darrelle Revis; contract disputes that cause an athlete to miss preseason training and join their team later than everyone else often translate to injuries and a longer adjustment period from which some players never recover.
The NBA isn’t as prone to contract holdouts as the NFL, but sometimes they do happen. Like this summer, when the Memphis Grizzlies tried to go against rookie-contract protocol and spent the offseason in disputes with 2010 Lottery pick Xavier Henry and first-round pick Greivis Vasquez. Read More »

Those of us in the Dime crew who are hitting our mid-to-late 20′s are noticing the trend every sports fan experiences with age: The offspring of athletes we grew up watching are now starting to make their own names in the game. Michael Jordan, Shawn Kemp and Glen Rice are just a few of the former NBA stars who now have sons that are college-age and giving us 1990s flashbacks every time they step on the court. Read More »

Yahoo! Sports’ NBA-news-and-rumors beast Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that the New Jersey Nets are “working feverishly” to complete a deal for Carmelo Anthony and are “in the construction stage of a complicated, multi-team trade.”
How complicated? The deal would apparently involve multiple players, draft picks and as many as four teams. Read More »

The air is crisp, the temperatures are cooler and leaves are changing colors. All this can only mean two things: summer is dead, and the NBA season is almost here. Summer officially ended on Wednesday and there are many things to miss about it, including all the movies that were released. As a way of paying homage to the season that has just passed us by, along with all the enjoyable (and not so enjoyable) films it brought our way, here’s a lighthearted look at which fantasy basketball players could have been cast for some of the movies of the summer of 2010.
