Duke Midnight Madness Slam Dunk Contest

After bypassing his final year of high school eligibility to join Duke for the 2009-10 season, Andre Dawkins played in 38 games last year, scoring a team-best 169 points off the bench. And after winning the dunk contest during Duke’s “Countdown to Craziness” last night, you can see why the Blue Devils are excited to see what he can do this year.

Do you think Duke can win back-to-back national championships?

I’m always going to root for this kid. Dawkins graduated HS early to play at Duke to give the backcourt some needed depth last year and his sister was killed in a horrific accident on the way to one of his games. He bounced back late in the season and made some major contributions and tough shots deep in the tourney. Seems like a good kid and hope he continues to get better. He has a sweet stroke from 3 and is a great athlete. He needs to make sure he gets to the basket more because he can obviously finish at the rim.

I hope he doesn’t get lost in the shuffle with Nolan, Kyrie, Seth, and Austin next year. A lot of guards to keep happy.
