Correct me if I’m wrong, but there’s no better commercial series than Nike’s Li’l Penny spots. Hands down. Here’s a gem where Li’l Penny tells Big Penny to say whatup to Kevin Garnett for him – because they went to high school together. Classic.
I cannot stop thinking about how the Utah Jazz shouldn’t be called the Jazz because there’s more jazz music around the corner of my apartment than in the entire state of Utah. Then I remembered Los Angeles doesn’t really have lakes, just rivers and the Pacific Ocean. Furthermore, Raptors have been extinct for about 71 million years. With that, I decided to take a look at all 30 NBA team names and rename them, because lots of these are outdated or just lame. But some aren’t outdated, and some are really awesome (like the Spurs, Heat and Thunder). Anyways, I’m changing all of them. Who cares, this isn’t really going to happen. Read More »
After a late night of ballin’ on the recently released and highly anticipated NBA 2K11, I couldn’t help but notice the difficulty of playing online against a team with home-court advantage — especially late in games. One can only imagine what it’s like trying to execute plays in crunch time in real life in these gyms.
With another NBA regular season on the horizon and a sense of excitement around a lot of teams this year, I couldn’t help but think of some of the toughest places to play throughout the League. Here are my top 5 toughest arenas to play in the NBA. Read More »

As much as last night’s Heat/Pistons exhibition game was about the debut of the “Super Friends” in Miami — LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh — it also represented the unveiling of a new-look Detroit squad.
The starting five stayed the same, but with the additions of Lottery pick Greg Monroe and former All-NBA regular Tracy McGrady, the Pistons certainly have more talent on the roster and expect no less than a run at the playoffs. Those hopes took a big hit with the news that second-year forward Jonas Jerebko will likely miss the entire season with a torn Achilles. Read More »
Hands down my favorite shoe to play ball in last year, the Nike Zoom Kobe V will continue to drop in new colorways until the release of the Nike Zoom Kobe VI. With that said, I don’t hear anyone complaining. Check out the upcoming “Ink” colorway – in multiple angles – after the jump. Read More »
Just like last year, I’m responding a reader’s request for the results of a mock draft I participated in. It was for a head-to-head league with nine categories and 12 teams with 10 starting spots (PG, SG, G, SF, PF, F, C, C, Util, Util) and three bench spots.
Below is a list of the results, with my picks in bold and my final squad at the end. Each round is followed by some brief comments and reactions. It was a fun mock draft and I’m pretty happy with the players I got. Feel free to give me your take on the fantasy squad I’ve assembled for the 2010-11 season through this mock draft. Read More »
Sometimes, when we’re putting together an issue of Dime, it develops its own in-house nickname during the process. When we had Rajon Rondo on the cover of Dime #56, for example, along with features on Deron Williams, Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul, we started calling it the “Point Guard Issue.” Or way back in Dime #29, when Gilbert Arenas graced the cover in his chip-on-his-shoulder prime and the perpetually underrated Shawn Marion was also featured, we called it the “Respect Issue” amongst ourselves. Dime #59, on newsstands now, could have been called the “Quiet Storm Issue.” Read More »
You can’t talk about the NBA’s best players and not mention Dwight Howard. It’s that simple. So while Dwight was in town to help launch NBA JAM, we got up with him to talk about why he picked Kevin Durant over LeBron James, his All-NBA starting five and the who he thinks is the NBA’s best dunker. You might be surprised.
Was it the most hyped-up NBA preseason game of all-time? Probably not, if you were around for Michael Jordan’s comeback debut with the Wizards, or Magic Johnson’s ill-fated comeback in ’92 that never made it to the regular season. But last night’s Miami/Detroit exhibition had almost a playoff feel to it, at least until the Pistons settled into their preordained role as the Washington Generals … The “Super-Friends” were only on the court for about three minutes together — D-Wade tweaked his hamstring early and sat out the rest of the game — but LeBron (18 pts) and Chris Bosh (20 pts) were dominant as a Big Two.
