Dime’s NBA season predictions were announced earlier this week, but due to some technical difficulties, my voice was not heard. As we were tallying up the predictions of editorial staff, mine were lost in somebody’s Spam inbox. My forecasts weren’t enough to swing the majority in any category, but would have made a notable change to one:
While the rest of the Dime unanimously picked Kevin Durant to win the league’s MVP — as inevitable as seeing rats in a New York City subway station — I beg to differ. This is the year Dwight Howard gets the award. Read More »
Yesterday when we told you about Rajon Rondo and Red Bull‘s new Boston’s Got Wings initiative, people were really feeling it. And who wouldn’t when every Rondo steal means $500 goes to Boston’s Parks and Recreation Department to refurbish basketball courts throughout the city. With that said, we want to give the extended Dime fam a chance to spread the movement, so we’re giving away a t-shirt for every steal Rondo has so far (5). Read More »
He may be older, he may a step slower and he may even have to adjust his displays of emotion on the court; but one thing Kevin Garnett is not is done.
His journey as a Celtic has been quite an interesting one over the course of his three seasons in green – from reaching the mountain top in 2008, to suffering a serious knee injury which prevented the Celtics from repeating in 2009 to fighting his way back and helping put the Celtics within four minutes of a championship last season. One thing certainly has not changed, regardless of whether or not the Celtics were dominating opponents or struggling to regain their championship form, and that is Garnett’s determination to do whatever it takes to win. Coming into this season, I knew that this year would emphasize the fact that basketball is the ultimate team sport. Put it this way: There’s going to be more sharing of the spotlight than a Wu-Tang Clan interview. Sure, every pack has its alpha dog, but that alpha is nothing without the rest of the pack.
One of the most underrated attributes of a championship teams is a good and feisty bench. The bottom half of the roster has to be ready to pounce on opportunities when their number is called. So far, some key players have had some adjusting to do in order to get back to their starting form. As result, the bench guys have shown their readiness to step in and dominate. Here are the top five bench performers from the first two days of the season: Read More »
Meet Mathias Murphy. Don’t know him? Why he’s Kevin Durant‘s neighbor of course! Penny had Li’l Penny, Kobe and LeBron have Lil’ Dez, and now KD has Mathias. Sort of. While I can’t tell you too much about him just yet, I’ve heard that KD and Mathias might meet in the next day or two. Follow all the action on his Twitter feed, and check out all his hilarious videos (so far) where he “interacts” with Durant after the jump. Read More »
One of the six best basketball players in the world — the one currently and forever better than Amar’e Stoudemire and Chris Bosh at their own position — hit the free agent market this summer, and it seemed the vast majority of the basketball world either didn’t notice or didn’t care.
Almost as quickly as he became available, Dirk Nowitzki re-signed with the Dallas Mavericks for $80 million over four years. And then, like Keyser Soze, he was gone for the rest of the summer media frenzy. Did I miss something? Read More »
Having lost Chris Bosh to Miami and adding seven new faces to the roster, the Toronto Raptors seem to be in the process of rebuilding. So on the heels of a solid rookie campaign and a second place finish at the 2010 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, DeMar DeRozan looks to begin his sophomore season with a fresh attitude and an added level of maturity. In an exclusive Dime Q&A at the adidas Practice Court in the Toronto’s Air Canada Centre before opening night, we caught up with DeMar to discuss this year’s squad, the “Young Onez” and Michael Jordan in a Raptors uniform. When last night’s Clippers/Blazers game started, I was watching the end of Spurs/Pacers. But keeping my eye on Twitter, I got the impression that Blake Griffin must have posted a double-double shortly after tip-off and dunked on more people in the first quarter than Amar’e Stoudemire has dunked on in his entire career.
As good as Griffin was in his pro debut (20 pts, 14 rebs), the rush to crown him the NBA’s next superstar was even more impressive. Read More »
One of the coolest things about the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse is that you can make it any color in the world. Literally. So before his new signature shoe comes out, you knew Kevin Durant was going to get a ridiculous pair of PEs in an Oklahoma City Thunder colorway. Check ‘em out after the jump. Read More »
