If Doc Rivers and the Celtics were truly evil, they would tank tonight’s game against the Cavaliers as part of a grand-scheme plot to mess with LeBron James‘ head. Imagine the reaction: LeBron and his shiny new team couldn’t beat the mighty Celtics, and yet the very next night, the guys he dumped in Cleveland host the reigning East champs and get the job done.
But assuming the Celtics are too competitive and aren’t that conniving, there is still a significant risk against Cleveland. Read More »
While I was at the NBA Rookie Photo Shoot in August, I was able to get up with all 40 NBA rookies in attendance and ask them each five questions. All 30 first rounders were there (except No. 17 Kevin Seraphin who was getting his visa), as well as 10 second round picks and undrafted Jeremy Lin. Watch as they tell DimeTV one thing that most people don’t know about them.
Watching the Miami Heat go down in their highly-anticipated regular season opener in Boston — much to the delight of LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Eddie House haters everywhere — I was reminded of Oscar De La Hoya. More specifically, reminded of the night in December 2008 when Oscar stepped into the ring with Manny Pacquiao. Read More »
Beast of the Night:Brandon Roy kicked off the season with business as usual, slapping up 24 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals, nailing 4 threes in the process. He shot 45 percent (9-20) from the field, 100 percent (2-2) from the line and had 2 turnovers. Roy put to rest any concerns about his sluggish preseason and should be good to go the rest of the way – so long as he stays healthy. Read More »
Rajon Rondo and Red Bull are teaming up in a big way to give back to Beantown. As part of their new Boston’s Got Wings initiative, for every steal Rondo records this season, Red Bull will donate $500 to the city’s Parks and Recreation Department to refurbish basketball courts throughout Boston. Seeing that Rondo recorded almost 200 steals last year (and already two last night), the potential impact of this program on the city is monumental. Read More »
You might not have heard of 6-5 junior swingman Jordan Adams yet, but you will. Playing for Oak Hill Academy this year, the Lawrenceville, Ga. native (who plays for the Atlanta Celtics and transferred from Central Gwinnett) had a ridiculous full-court shot yesterday against the Italian Jr. National Team that somehow found its way into the bottom of the net. Not a bad way to start the season.
As expected, the majority of the mainstream covered last night’s Celtics/Heat season opener from the “Miami lost” angle more than the “Boston won” perspective. So rather than focus on what went wrong for the Heat — Dwyane Wade played like Dwayne Wayne, and the team generally played like they’d first met at shootaround that morning — show a little appreciation for what the Celtics did right. Like Paul Pierce (19 pts, 9 rebs) being clutch all night, or Ray Allen (20 pts, 5-8 3PA) hitting a huge three in the final minute to snuff out Miami’s late rally … Read More »
Welcome to Boston. Well, more like welcome to the Dime Lounge at the Coach ENew Terrance, a.k.a. Newman’s crib, for Opening Night of the new NBA season. Anticipation is high, Kenny Smith is already screaming 20 minutes before tip-off, Charles Barkley looks like he dropped a few sizes over the summer, and Ernie Johnson is back in his comfort zone after the debacle that was the MLB playoffs. Dime will be covering Celtics/Heat, Lakers/Rockets, and some of Suns/Blazers. Buckle up… Read More »
With the new season upon us, it’s time to get geared out. For the first time ever, fans of all 30 NBA teams will have the chance to own game-worn jerseys of the starting five on their team’s opening-night roster. So if you’ve been saving your pennies for that Joel Anthony authentic NBA Revolution 30 jersey, it’s time to cash in.
