Beast of the Night: John Wall notched his first NBA triple-double, finishing with 19 points, 10 rebounds, 13 assists, 6 steals, 1 block and 1 turnover. He shot 50 percent (8-16) from the field, 50 percent (1-2) from the line and hit two threes along the way. The rookie is playing very well so far, averaging 19/4/10 along with 3.2 steals and 5 turnovers per game. The major threat to Wall’s fantasy value seems to be (humorously enough) the rookie wall. For certain sports franchises, players are not so much developed as they are born. Randy Moss was born to be a Raider (he just got there at the wrong time). Derek Jeter is a natural Yankee. Jon Scheyer couldn’t have played anywhere but Duke. Kevin Nash was the perfect fit for the New World Order.
The Lakers are one of those iconic franchises for which certain players appear destined to play. It may not happen on Draft Night — it may not even happen within the first 10 years of their career — but one way or another, he will eventually suit up for the purple and gold, and don the Sunday whites. So he may not be Oscar Robertson, but he’s close enough for now. It took the Big O one game to record a his first NBA triple-double. John Wall needed six. But when your first one is 19 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists, while adding 6 steals, we guess we’ll let it slide … Wall’s mid-range jump shot has already become a legit weapon. He made five from that range last night, and added a three-pointer as the Wizards beat Houston at home. If Raleigh’s Finest continues to shoot like that, it’ll mean an end for Blake Griffin‘s ROY aspirations … Read More »

All due respect to Kevin Garnett and offseason pickups Shaquille O’Neal and Jermaine O’Neal, but Kendrick Perkins is still the Boston Celtics’ go-to post defender.
Because he can guard the likes of Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol one-on-one, Perkins allows his team more defensive flexibility while keeping KG fresher for the fourth quarter. Read More »

As you can imagine, when we’re not in the office during the fall/winter, we’re in the gym hooping. And some days, we’ll even bounce from the office early to do just that. Now thanks to our friends at AXE, after you’ve done your work on the court, you can proceed to do your work off of it. Read More »

In his first game back this season, Gilbert Arenas wore the Air Jordan IX Premio against the Knicks. But in game two, he came out with a pair of kicks that had never graced the NBA hardwood. Introducing the Under Armour Micro G Supreme. Check it out in both home and away Wizards team colorways after the jump. Read More »

As a West Coast kid who grew up rooting for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (though not necessarily the Lakers as a team) and Georgetown University, there’s only one thing worse than having three die-hard Celtics fans and one die-hard Duke fan in the office: That’s having three die-hard C’s fans and two die-hard Duke fans.
In the midst of more unprovoked J.J. Redick slurping, I threw out an unpopular opinion: Salim Stoudamire at Arizona was a better shooter than Redick at Duke. Read More »

By Cole Aldrich
After an outstanding three-year career at Kansas, which included a 2008 NCAA Championship and three Big 12 titles during his tenure, Cole Aldrich was a Lottery pick this June. First selected by the Hornets before being trading to the Thunder on Draft Night, the Bloomington, Minn. native gladly returned to the Midwest. So with everyone’s expectations for the Thunder going through the roof this season, we decided there was no one better to turn to for the inside scoop on life in OKC. In his initial entry, Cole talks about rookie hazing, facing his childhood idol and the best spot to get spicy California rolls in town. Read More »

Who do you want your offense to run through with the game on the line? Counting down from 30th to 1st (one per team), I’ve ranked the League’s go-to guys…
JOE JOHNSON, Atlanta Hawks
There is a very good chance that Joe Johnson is as good right now as he’s ever going to get. Which is very good: Solid 20-point, 5-board, 5-dime type, All-Star staple, spontaneous combustions of 35 to 40 points some nights, no stranger to game-winners and daggers, one of the 15 to 20 best in the world at what he does for a living. Beast of the Night: Paul Millsap abused the Heat last night, putting up 46 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block. As if that weren’t enough, he hit all three of his three-point attempts (he went 1-9 from deep during all of 2009-10), shot 68 percent (19-28) from the field, 71 percent (5-7) from the line and had just a single turnover in 43:27 of work in the overtime victory. Millsap is every fantasy owner’s man crush at the moment, so sell high if you want — but why would you want to? Read More »
