Lately, the Clippers have been bad. (I worked with that sentence for about five minutes and couldn’t find a better way to say it.) They’ve just been bad. In the last four seasons, they’ve accumulated a total of 111 wins. That’s an average of 27 wins per year. Nothing to brag about, especially when you have to share your stadium with that one team who keeps winning NBA championships. Read More »

It’s called instinct for a reason. Lion cubs must be taught the tricks of hunt, but they’re already ingrained with the knowledge that survival depends on catching prey.
In other words: You can teach the method, not the motivation. Read More »
We may be only six games into the new season, but Houston is already feeling the pressure to win as much as any other team in the NBA. After last night’s 120-94 win over Minnesota, the Rockets now stand at 1-5 on the year. It also doesn’t hurt to mention that four of Houston’s first six opponents have been New Orleans, San Antonio, Denver and the L.A. Lakers – who currently have three total losses between them.
But the Rockets shouldn’t worry just yet, because if one thing is clear, it’s that this team has a lot of talent – and much of that talent stems from a deep bench of role players. Beyond Houston’s starting core, Chase Budinger, Courtney Lee and Kyle Lowry will all certainly make their respective presence felt this season. And another guy who will look to make an impact: rookie Patrick Patterson. Read More »
We know this happened Friday, since we were at the game, but this was definitely the Dunk of the Weekend. Averaging 16.3 points and 7.5 rebounds, could Wilson Chandler win Sixth Man of the Year?
Weekend Wonder:Pau Gasol averaged 25 points, 10.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.5 steals, 1 block and 0.5 turnovers in two games over the weekend and topped things off with his fourth career triple-double on Sunday. As expected, Gasol is putting up huge numbers with Andrew Bynum still making his way back, but even when the man with weak knees returns, the Spaniard will still be a top-12 stud. Read More »
Some NBA teams match up so well, you wish they played each other more than a couple of times per year. Case in point: Atlanta and Phoenix. The styles mesh, two teams full of talented scorers and athletes that bring out the best in each other. Too bad it will never be an NBA Finals matchup, unless the Suns find a way to trade for Amar’e Stoudemire back and the Hawks pull a Tonya Harding move on Dwight Howard, LeBron and Paul Pierce … Going against his usual script yesterday, Jason Richardson (21 pts) didn’t have a big first quarter before he blew up later in the game. Utah broadcaster Ron Boone called it at the beginning of the second half: “The Jazz will win this game.” Never mind that his team was down 16 at halftime and were close to setting a record for “Least amount of effort exhibited by any Jerry Sloan team ever.” What happened? First of all, we’re betting Sloan lit some C4 beneath some of his guy’s butts during the break. And secondly, some bad Clipper luck — coupled with Deron Williams going into beast mode once again — led to Utah’s 109-107 come from behind 2OT win … Read More »
