DimeTV: Camping Out For The Reebok ZigTech Slash “Gold Rush”

Here’s how it happens: Someone reads a post or a tweet, which leads to a call or a text, resulting in you sleeping outside in the street for a pair of sneakers. Think it’s crazy? Think again. After the Knicks/Wizards game at MSG Friday night, I headed over to the Foot Locker on 34th Street to check if anyone was waiting outside for the kicks I told you about earlier today. And there were. With only 12 pairs available worldwide of a shoe John Wall will only wear once, as soon as NYC’s most avid collectors caught wind of the release, they left work, packed their supplies and setup shop. These are their stories.

Chris Paul takes MVP lead, sends Miami home with a loss

Chris Paul (photo. Zach Wolfe)

New Orleans is officially legit, and Chris Paul is officially the clubhouse leader in the first leg of the MVP race. With his boy Lil’ Wayne still digesting prison food but sitting courtside for Hornets/Heat, CP3 dominated from start to finish (13 pts, 19 asts, 5 stls) while sending his other boys D-Wade, LeBron and Bosh home with their second loss … The win ran N.O.’s record to 5-0 against maybe the toughest schedule in the League so far — Bucks, Nuggets, Spurs, Rockets, Heat — and Paul reminded everyone that he’s still the best PG in the world on a night when Rajon Rondo and Derrick Rose were supposed to be the main event. Buy Low, Sell High: Fantasy Week 2

LeBron James

Buy Low: LeBron James has really disappointed owners so far, with averages of 20.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 1.4 steals, 0.8 blocks, 1 three and 5.2 turnovers. It’s clear that James’ chance at averaging a triple-double this season are is all but dead, and the possibility of a blowout or two each week doesn’t help his shot at surpassing his monstrous numbers from 2009-10. That said, once his turnovers come down to a sustainable level and once the Heat gets into their groove, James should have little trouble averaging big numbers. It might take another week or two, but if you can buy low on him now you won’t regret it. Read More »

5 Reasons the Atlanta Hawks should trade Josh Smith

Josh Smith

Over the last six seasons, Josh Smith contributed largely to the success of the Atlanta Hawks. Right after All-Star guard Joe Johnson, Smith has been ATL’s MVP throughout his career as the team has improved every year since his arrival. And being from Atlanta originally, Smith is a hometown favorite.

However, Smith’s days at home may be coming to an end. Trade rumors surrounding Smith have popped up recently, and while according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution the Hawks have assured Smith that they won’t be trading him — even as a Hawks fan, I think they should at least explore the option. The Boston Celtics are the NBA’s Kentucky Wildcats, plus other NCAA vs. NBA comparisons

With the NBA season underway and the college basketball season right around the corner, the Dime office was engaged in a debate yesterday over which is more entertaining: College or pro ball.

I’m on the fence in this argument. I love the atmosphere and drama of the college game. No matter how good or bad each team is, in general I will always watch a Duke/Carolina over a Celtics/Lakers game. However, when it comes to the actual play on the floor, the pro game is simply better. Read More »

Kobe Bryant Will Shoot Your Face Off (In Video Games Too)

Last week we showed you Kobe Bryant‘s new whip: a 2011 Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: Black Ops Edition. Now I understand why he got it. Check out the first commercial for the new game titled “There’s A Soldier In All Of Us.” And as Trey Kerby points out, perhaps the coolest thing is that Kobe’s gun is named “Mamba.”
