We’ve already showed you a sneak peek at the new commercial spot, but now it’s time to hear from the man himself. When I caught up with ’Melo in mid-August, we were patiently waiting around at the Galen Center at the University of Southern California. So for those of you that missed his thoughts in Dime #59, here they are: Read More »
For Dime #59, we caught up with Carmelo Anthony when he was in L.A. to film the new Jordan Brand commercial for his seventh signature shoe, the JORDAN MELO M7. To debut his new kicks, the creative team over at Wieden+Kennedy aimed to deliver a film experience unlike any of Anthony’s previous advertising work. For starters, USC’s Galen Center floor had been transformed into that of Denver’s Pepsi Center; which was in turn being occupied by nine other Carmelo Anthony look-alikes. Below, check out some behind-the-scenes footage from the new spot titled “Do Whatever It Takes,” speaking to ‘Melo’s unique versatility and ability to do it all.
It’s crazy to think that the NBA season is just over one week old. We’ve already seen triple-doubles by Rajon Rondo and Brandon Jennings, as well as two 40-point games courtesy Monta Ellis and Luol Deng, who were making more buckets than a KFC drive-thru crew.
While the elite teams are off to good head starts in the standings, a lot of star players are compiling their cases for All-Star and other award consideration. (Chris Paul for MVP?) Read More »
Last week, we told you about Rajon Rondo and Red Bull‘s Boston’s Got Wings initiative, which has Red Bull donating $500 to Boston’s Parks and Recreation Department to refurbish basketball courts throughout the city for every steal Rondo records this season. So far, Rondo has 10 steals through four games, meaning $5000 has already been donated. At this clip, he’s on pace to swipe the rock 205 times and donate $102,500. Not bad. Read More »
All due respect to the L.A. Clippers, but the Detroit Pistons are clearly the best 0-4 team in the NBA.
As pointed out in this week’s Dime NBA Power Ranking, Rodney Stuckey and Ben Gordon have formed perhaps the League’s most explosive backcourt so far this season, and six Pistons are averaging double-figure scoring. Two of their losses were by a combined four points, and Detroit was up 15 on the Bulls in the fourth quarter before losing another one. Read More »
After Michael Jordan, the Chicago Bulls colorway of white/red/black has become one of the best sellers of all-time. Even some conspiracy theorists this summer said that had something to do with LeBron James‘s decision to head to Miami. Regardless, what it means is that French brand Le Coq Sportif has a good thing going with their guy Joakim Noah. With that said, check out detailed photos of Noah’s signature shoe, the Pro Model “Team,” in three different colorways after the jump. Read More »
Somewhere hidden within last night’s 19-point rout (which wasn’t even that close) was a Memphis Grizzlies team that could actually challenge the L.A. Lakers. Like, in a playoff series. I’m serious.
You can learn a lot from a blowout, but if I’m Memphis coach Lionel Hollins, I’m focusing today’s film session on the third quarter, when the Grizzlies outscored L.A. 30-24. That was when the Grizzlies used their athleticism, rebounding, defense and a nothing-to-lose attitude while looking a lot like the Oklahoma City Thunder squad that pushed Kobe Bryant‘s team to six games in the first round of the 2010 postseason. With the NBA’s premiere week over, there’s a lot to take away. And for those of you that have been watching all the action before your free League Pass runs out, perhaps you’ve noticed the same thing: The NBA is being dominated by Team USA. After running through the competition in this summer’s World Championship under Coach Mike Krzyzewski, the 12 members of the squad are doin’ work in the League. Check it out: Read More »
