Dwight Howard and Brandon Bass trucked the opposition in the first half like they were Dwight Freeney and Brandon Jacobs. Then J.J. Redick had brief flashbacks of Cameron Indoor in the second half. But the Magic ultimately beat the Heat last night because the last five minutes belonged to Jameer Nelson … Running that high screen-and-roll with Dwight over and over again, Jameer (17 pts, 14 asts) always made the right decision, whether getting it to Dwight (24 pts, 18 rebs) in position where he’d get fouled, or taking it himself for jumpers and layups. While last night’s Wizards/Sixers game was an exercise in frustration for a basketball purist, it was also a chance for two of the NBA’s youngest teams to get some crunch-time reps in what could be a budding Eastern Conference rivalry.
But even with things looking more like a college game than a pro product, not every project got a chance to show his skills. Read More »
The story’s been out there for years, but it’s always different to hear if from the man himself. With that, listen to Kevin Durant as he tells you why he wears No. 35.
Phil Jackson sure knows how to rub Stan Van Gundy the wrong way.
Jackson appeared on ESPN Radio’s “Waddle & Silvy Show” yesterday and predicted that if the Miami Heat continue to struggle this season, Pat Riley will take over as coach and do a better job than Erik Spoelstra. If Marcus wasn’t Michael Jordan’s son, would this have been one of SportsCenter’s Top Plays from last night? Debatable. Still, this steal-tomahawk-taunting-technical foul sequence the 6-3 Jordan is worth a look:
STEVE NASH, Phoenix Suns
He could have been MVP last year. Well, amend that, because anybody could have been MVP. Ian Mahinmicould have been MVP given the right circumstances. More clearly: Steve Nash arguably did more for the Suns last year than he did in his two MVP campaigns. The two-time MVP was perhaps more valuable than he’s ever been. Read More »
What’s going on in Sacramento? The Kings are 4-9 on the season, have lost two in a row and have only won two of their last 10 games. The worst part about it? Things don’t look to be getting better anytime soon. Last week, Sacramento offered Jason Thompson to Atlanta for Jeff Teague, but were turned down by the Hawks. Now reports have surfaced that Teague isn’t the only point guard that the Kings have inquired about. Read More »
