  1. mike breen says:

Is it just me or is Derrick Rose a reincarnation of Steve Francis. Their games are pretty similar, super athletic, good handles, terrible shots, high turnover, poor distributors.

The main difference is that Francis dunked waaaaaaaaaaaayyy more and he was a better rebounder. Everything else is pretty close. Including the overhyping.

  2. MrFreezy says:

over hyping? mike, have u seen the stats that rose has been putting up lately?

  3. haslem says:

Francis was sick back in the day. BUt how did this guy fall off so hard? makes no sense how he dropped off so hard. I guess surgeries got rid of his hops but still

  4. WinDelRoj says:

Steve Francis was awesome… but Derrick Rose has way more upside.

Derrick Rose is also more athletic and his dunks more ruthless.

  5. knoc99 says:

my fav player of the 2000′s the break up of francis n cat totally ruined the man.

  6. daghost says:

how many steps did he take at 1:54? i guess the NBA didn’t believe in traveling at the time huh?

  7. Mapletown says:

Damn i hardly remember his stint in Orlando. Yeah his fall from grace was kinda surprising. He just vanished and nobody seemed to blink.

  8. 2cents says:

“elevator man” was awesome at Maryland. And that’s about it. He became an NBA cancer the moment he was drafted by the Grizz.

  9. Promoman says:

It’s a tragedy to tell the truth here: Steve’s attitude killed him. He had it all. He was of the shoot-first school of Iverson/Marbury but he’d defend & rebound light-years better than either of them and he’d pass a tad more. Too bad all Steve wanted to do is play 2 on 5 with Cuttino Mobley. When Houston & Orlando asked him to distribute the ball to the post more and that there are other players on the team besides Cuttino, that’s when he went to shit. He sort of got a raw deal in New York during the Larry Brown regime.

  10. Chaos says:

it never seemed like when he ried to make a come back he never got a chance but he was sick, especially the dunk contest when he competed vs Vince. that was an all time favorite

  11. 808 says:

    @daghost

    that’s what I’m saying.

That dunk at 2:00 is the epitome of Stevie Franchise’s career: one big highlight reel with very little else to show for it.

Ridiculous to compare Steve Francis to Derrick Rose. I’m not a fan of Rose, but dude is a leader.

Rose has done more in his first 2 years in the L than Francis did in his entire career.

  12. Wake says:

Rose and Francis’ skill set maybe almost identical but their attitude towards the game is night and day. That’s why Rose is going to be better than Francis. He’s willing to learn.

  13. Thestradiosmiles says:

It’s a shame what happened with him, but in his prime he was one of the most explosive players with some of the sweetest highlights.

  14. JAY says:

    @mike breen
Sorry bud, I disagree wholeheartedly. As other people have posted, athletically they are similar. Other than that, they are nothing alike. Equating Francis to Rose is like equating Vince to MJ.

Hey guys, can someone tell me witch is the last one on that clip? (following Eminem’s)
    Thks

  17. Knicksfan84 says:

Steve Francis and Derrick Rose are VERY similar. I’m not a HUGE fan of Rose and feel he is highly over-rated. The one thing I will say is both live off athletic ability and once it goes to crap, Rose will be done much like Francis was.

  18. Mchonos says:

    @Mike Breen

Steve had much more better shooting and had better technique(maybe)than Rose except this I agree with everything you’ve said

  19. thedoc says:

Mchonos is right. Stevie Franchise was a much much better shooter than Rose is now. Rose needs to keep working on that jumper.

  20. SWAT says:

i loved franchise but dudes attitude wasnt right…hard to say bcuz i still hv my rockets francis jersey. but thy were so many times dude wld just bug out. i remember whn h-town hosted the super bowl and francis was trashed and missd the team flight the next day. saying he had headaches and ish…its called a hangover my brother. still…francis in his day was raw.

  21. Kent says:

Steve Francis is our beloved homie here in the DMV! I’ve seen Stevie play since he was at Allegheny college in Maryland, it was a great pickup for Maryland too. Here’s a video when Stevie dropped 63 points in the famed James “Jabbo” Kenner Summer Memorial League in Georgetown U’s legendary McDonough Gymnasium…Enjoy!

  22. eyes says:

Steve Francis was the truth. I hate when people discredit the old with the new. You have to know what you’re talking about. It’s cool to have an opinion. Still you don’t have to just say anything. You know what Steve Francis would have done to Derrick. It’s not close talent or anything. Better all around player. The comment about Rose did more than Francis whole career. How old are you? 18… Talents like this don’t come around very often. They’ll always clash with a coach that thinks his word is law.

Kobe and Mike with Phil. A.I. with Larry. It’s inevitable. You have to have a ego. It just helps if you can control it. Great talent & leave it at that. Same with Cuttino Mobley. Great talent & had a very solid N.B.A. career. They all played in a way more competitive league. They’re only 4 -6 really good teams in the N.B.A. Way to go people in charge. LOLOLOLOLOL.

  23. where high ankle sprains happen says:

steve francis himself killed the vancouver grizzlies…..him and stu jackson.

  24. 808 says:

    @”eyes”

How old am I? I’m 35 going on 36 next month, my brother, thanks for asking.

I’m not talking about raw skills. I’m not talking about ability. And I’m definitely not talking about some hypothetical 1-on-1 game that you “youngstas” like to dream up of for NBA 2k11.

This is the NBA, where winning matters. Stevie Francis can fill a highlight reel from here to Turkey, but that don’t mean ish if you can’t win the big games…If you got a whole lot of crossovers and not much else, the NBA don’t need you. Skills come a dime a dozen; it’s attitude and leadership that matters.

If not, I know there’s an opening in Europe where you can showcase that crossover…

  25. Kent says:

Steve Francis still lived his dream by playing in the NBA, he came a long ways if you know him! Say what you want, BUT, THAT THE BOTTOM LINE!!!

  27. CoolBreeze says:

Steve Francis=Derrick Rose 1.0 with a better jumpshot and worser attitude.

Neither one of them really understood basketball or their games completely. At least Rose has the desire to get better, though at this stage he seems to lack the baskeball IQ. We’ll see!!
