I think I might be more excited than anyone to see Gilbert Arenas‘ debut with the Orlando Magic tonight, and it’s probably not for any reasons you may think. Back when Agent Zero was blogging for NBA.com in 2007, he let the world know that the Magic were his favorite team growing up and Penny Hardaway was his favorite player. “In my room I probably had 600 pictures up on my wall and 575 of ‘em were all Penny.” Tonight in Atlanta against the Hawks, Arenas will take the floor donning Penny’s No. 1 in his honor. I’m going to go ahead and admit that I haven’t always been a big fan of Tim Duncan because his playing style isn’t exactly the most exciting to watch. With that said, I’m fully aware that there is genius and beauty in his game that has allowed him to average 20.9 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.3 blocks per game over his 13-plus year career.
This year however, I’ve been watching Duncan closely because he’s on my fantasy basketball team. The truth is I stepped away from my computer after my fourth pick and couldn’t make it back before Duncan was autopicked as my fifth pick. I was a little upset at the time because I had another player in mind, but I’m proud to say the autopick function actually worked. Read More »
After J.R. Smith‘s dunk last week, I knew it’d take me some time to be able to appreciate any other dunk. With that said, I’m not surprised that I missed this gem from LaMarcus Aldridge on Michael Beasley from Friday night. Enjoy!
The Orlando Magic made a huge splash over the weekend by dealing for Gilbert Arenas, Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu and Earl Clark. In exchange, the Magic dealt Rashard Lewis to the Washington Wizards; they also dealt Vince Carter, Mickael Pietrus, Marcin Gortat, a 2011 first-round draft pick and cash to the Phoenix Suns. This will cause significant waves in fantasy basketball. Here’s a quick look at the fallout: Read More »
Until Monty Williams wised up, the Pistons had a pretty effective strategy going into overtime against the Hornets last night: Identify whoever Marco Belinelli was guarding and let that guy get buckets. Ben Gordon (25 pts) hit Marco for two shots right off the bat, and after Chris Paul switched onto BG, Will Bynum (21 pts, 9 asts) took Marco to the rack for another score. Monty finally got the picture and took Marco out, and the Hornets were able to take the lead with 15 seconds on a pair of David West free throws. Read More »
How many times has a legit NBA championship contender engineered a massive overhaul of its roster in the middle of a season and remained a contender? The most recent example that comes to mind was in ’08, when the Cavs gutted half of their ’07 NBA Finals squad to pick up Ben Wallace, Delonte West, Wally Szczerbiak and Joe Smith at the February deadline. That team went on to lose in seven games to the championship-bound Celtics in the conference semis … Like LeBron back then, the Orlando Magic have a centerpiece superstar in Dwight Howard whose supporting cast appeared to be failing him. To quote a text from one of our boys just now, “Holy NBA trade!” The Orlando Magic, already rumored for the last few days to be close to swapping Gilbert Arenas for Rashard Lewis, have apparently decided to really shake up their roster. It is being reported that the Magic and Suns have agreed to a six-player deal built around Vince Carter going to Phoenix. Here is what is being reported right now: Read More »
