Knicks vs. Celtics: Behind the Scenes at the Game of the Year

Kevin Garnett

This was one of those nights in the sports industry that becomes hard to talk about without sounding like a braggart and a name-dropper.

For last night’s Knicks/Celtics game at Madison Square Garden, I used my media credential to go behind the scenes and visit both locker rooms. When it was time for tip-off, I used my invite to a luxury suite — where I was part of a select group brought in to celebrate the launch of KnicksNow.com, the team’s new interactive social media website — to watch the game from the rich-people seats with rich-people amenities. And then after the game, maybe the best of the NBA season so far, I used my media pass again to access the locker rooms and catch the aftermath of an instant classic. Here’s how it all went down: Read More »

Paul Pierce

Beast of the Night: Paul Pierce killed the Knicks last night with 32 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, 2 threes and a game-winning jumper right in Amar’e Stoudemire’s goggled eye. He shot 56 percent (10-18) from the field, 100 percent (10-10) from the free-throw line and had two turnovers. Pierce has been relatively quiet in December but this game reminds his owners that there’s nothing to worry about. Read More »

D-Wade puts Cleveland on blast with the NBA dunk of the night

While LeBron dumped 21 points, 13 boards and 5 dimes on his former team, but last night Dwyane Wade was The Man. On his way to a 28-point performance that included a fourth-quarter explosion, D-Wade made Joey Graham‘s brother have sympathy pains.

Pierce, Ginobili buzzer-beaters keep Celtics, Spurs atop NBA

Paul Pierce

Paul Pierce said it wasn’t a rivalry. He never said it wasn’t a big stage or a big game. Putting the exclamation point on the most highly-anticipated Knicks/Celtics matchup in at least a decade, Pierce snapped New York’s eight-game win streak and stretched Boston’s win streak to 11 by hitting the game-winning jumper with 0.4 seconds left in Madison Square Garden. And after the shot — going to his right, two-dribble pull-up slightly fading away, as predictable as payday — Pierce took a bow for the road crowd … It wasn’t over at that point, though. Read More »

Celtics vs. Knicks: 35 Years Later, the Return of the Rivalry

Rajon Rondo

When we talk “rivalries” in sports, the first question that needs to be asked is the following: Have both teams been competitive during the same established period of time?

The answer, of course, when it comes to the Knicks and Celtics is “No.” We are not talking about Boston vs. New York, which has been dominated by Yankee/Red Sox in terms of a sports rivalry with sprinkles of Jets/Patriots and even Giants/Patriots (Super Bowl XLII) recently mixed in. Read More »

Kobe trash-talking Barack Obama: “I’ll pick up after the fifth ring”

Kobe Bryant

You know Kobe Bryant has a lot of NBA championships when his team’s traditional meet-the-President function gets moved from the White House to another location just to mix things up.

While the Lakers were honored by President Barack Obama at a Boys & Girls Club in Washington D.C. the other day, Kobe and the Commander-in-Chief exchanged a little trash talk that ended when Kobe brought up his ring count. Read More »
