This is exactly what we’ve been talking about: Let’s make a deal. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Lakers, Rockets and Nets are in advanced talks on three-way deal that would send Terrence Williams to Houston, Sasha Vujacic to New Jersey along with a 2012 Rockets first-round pick and 2011 Lakers first-round pick, and Joe Smith to L.A. Sources say the deal likely won’t be finalized before Wednesday, as financial considerations still need to be adjusted. Read More »
In the last five years, only six times has a player scored 60 or more points in an NBA game. Five of them were Kobe Bryant. The other one? Gilbert Arenas… against Kobe Bryant. On December 17, 2006, Arenas exploded for a career-best, franchise-record and NBA season-high 60 points. He went 17-of-32 from the floor, 5-of-12 from deep and 21-of-27 from the stripe along with eight rebounds and eight assists. Forty-three of his points came after halftime, including 16 points in the five-minute overtime of the 147-141 road victory. Arenas after the game, “It was bound to happen.” Tonight, Gil and Kobe take the court again. We can only hope…
Talented as they are, the Denver Nuggets (14-9) just seem to have too much “stuff” going on around the team to realistically contend for an NBA championship in 2011.
Carmelo Anthony is posting close to a career-low shooting percentage from the field (42.8%, 23.1 ppg) as trade rumors and behind-the-scenes issues with the organization swirl around him. Injuries to Kenyon Martin and Birdman Andersen have decimated the frontcourt. Read More »
Over the weekend I watched Pony Excess, the latest ESPN “30 for 30″ documentary that focused on the SMU football program of the ’80s that was so flagrant with their recruiting violations that they were handed the first (and likely last) “death penalty” sentence by the NCAA. It was a great film, and “30 for 30″ has been bringing the heat since this series began.
But someone missed a big opportunity by not making a doc on Clippers owner Donald Sterling. As far as cartoon-like sports villains go, Sterling is easy movie material. Read More »
Rick Pitino is college basketball royalty. A living legend. Which makes it hard to fathom that — while still actively coaching a strong program in the high-profile Big East conference, and only five years removed from his most recent Final Four appearance — Pitino could somehow be overshadowed in his own state.
And yet that is the case currently for Pitino, now in his 10th season at the University of Louisville. Read More »
We’ve shown you LeBron‘s bespoke Nike Sportswear Destroyer jacket, but he’s not the only baller getting the one-of-one treatment. New York streetball point guard Adris DeLeon, better known as “Too Hard To Guard,” stopped by Nike Stadium last month to design his bespoke Destroyer jacket. Inspired by his personal achievements on the court, the design of this jacket represents the man himself. Check it out: Read More »
Coming off two championships with the Knicks, in the prime of his career, Walt “Clyde” Frazier was a departure from your typical sports hero of the 1970s. Sporting a wardrobe as vast as Liberace’s, and a burgundy-and-antelope Rolls Royce for good measure, his image off the court was as important to him as his image on the court.
Trying to depict the very essence of Walt Frazier – one of the few elite players whose lifestyle often exceeds his statistics – seems like a daunting task. Which is why at first glance of Rockin’ Steady: A Guide to Basketball & Cool, I wasn’t really sure what to make of it. Was it a comedic autobiography? Was it a player’s guide to living life in style? Or was it merely an instructional book, providing tips on basketball’s fundamentals? I would soon find out it was an incorporation of all three. Read More »
If you’re a Golden State Warriors fan, chances are you already know about the fine work of beat writer Marcus Thompson. But in case you missed it across your Twitter feed last night, Thompson showed the world exactly what David Lee has been dealing with after Wilson Chandler lost a tooth in his elbow. WARNING! This is gross. Check it out: Read More »
