The haters are running out of reasons to throw rocks at the Heat. Last night’s blowout of the Hornets — a team that has W’s over Dallas, San Antonio and Miami already on its resume — provided an answer to just about every criticism that’s been levied against D-Wade, LeBron and Bosh‘s crew … You say Wade and ‘Bron can’t play together? While Wade dominated the second quarter, scoring 20 of his 32 points, LeBron owned the third, scoring 13 of his 20 as Miami turned a one-point halftime deficit into a seven-point lead going into the fourth quarter. It’s more than just Jordans. eBay’s strongest tie to basketball is not documented footwear, but an infinite inventory of NBA junk, official and otherwise, wearable or not. If it’s old and NBA, it’s worth watching. Keep checking back for the best in vintage NBA memorabilia around. This week, we have Michael Jordan‘s Birmingham Barons Bobblehead and Dennis Rodman‘s Wedding Day Doll. Read More »

Five NCAA teams that got my attention this past weekend for various reasons:
1. Michigan State (7-3)
Considering the Detroit Pistons’ fall from NBA grace and Michigan State’s rise to NCAA elite, I’m not sure if Saturday’s doubleheader at The Palace of Auburn Hills was meant to showcase Pistons/Raptors as the main event or the undercard. Before the Pistons blew a 25-point lead and lost their game, the Spartans barely hung on to beat unranked Oakland. Read More »

As noted in this morning’s Dime NBA Power Ranking, the Miami Heat have defeated a franchise-record eight consecutive teams by double digits. Wondering what changed? Well, other than the fact that Dwyane Wade has averaged 26.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists during the steak, a new team “reward system” has been instituted by coach Erik Spoelstra. As Wade puts it, “[Coach] said, ‘If y’all get stops, if y’all get rebounds, then y’all can do whatever y’all want,’ so as players we enjoy that. When the ball goes through the basket, then we’ve got to do what he wants us to do.” Read More »

The story of Vince Lombardi is one that is universally familiar to sports fans. When you hear the name Lombardi you associate it with the Green Bay Packers, Super Bowl championships, the Lombardi trophy and one of the greatest coaching minds to ever live. Don’t get me wrong, this would be an accurate depiction of Vince, but there’s much more behind the man who was known for telling his players, “Winning isn’t everything, its the only thing.” Read More »

Trying to get information on Kyrie Irving’s injury and its potential impact on his future is about as difficult as my Physics final was last year. As was announced early last Thursday, Kyrie — who is averaging over 17 points and five assists for No. 1 Duke — will be out indefinitely with ligament damage to his right big toe, which he sustained in the Blue Devils’ win last Saturday over Butler.
Thursday morning, Kyrie tweeted, “Situation not looking good and I’m not feeling good…smh worst thing ever.” Read More »
