Eric Gordon gives the Kings another Kobe flashback

Eric Gordon

“Either you define the moment or the moment defines you.” Clippers’ announcer Mike Smith put it the best you could and captured the way Eric Gordon (29 pts) went into straight beast mode during the fourth quarter of last night’s win over the Kings … After Sacramento had come all the way back from a 17-point deficit to tie it up with under a minute left, Gordon freed himself off a screen and laced a deep trey, serenaded by an epic “BIIIIIIIIIIINGOOOOOOOOO!!” from L.A.’s Ralph Lawler. Gordon rebounded a Sacramento miss, and after the ensuing timeout, the Kings completely fell apart. Read More »

Monday Madness: The National Player of the Year Front-Runner

Five NCAA teams that got my attention this past weekend for various reasons:

1. Connecticut (7-0) According to preseason predictions, the Huskies would be overachieving had they reached sixth place in the Big East. Today, UConn is undefeated and ranked No. 6 in the nation following its rout of Maryland-Baltimore County on Friday. Kemba Walker is the alpha and omega of Coach Jim Calhoun‘s young squad. Dime Q&A: Shawne Williams is the Knicks’ comeback kid

No matter how many games his New York Knicks win this season, no matter how many points he scores or how many minutes he plays, Shawne Williams can be seen as a success story.

It was less than one year ago when Williams, now 24, was basically out of the NBA and nearly killed his own career. In January 2010 he was arrested in his hometown Memphis, Tenn., on felony drug charges, his second arrest for drugs in three years. Read More »

Sacramento Is Searching For The Real Tyreke Evans

Tyreke Evans

“I can’t imagine him in Year Five or Six. He probably won’t peak until he is in Year Seven. He will only be 27 then. That’s crazy. Think about what he could be at his rate of growth right now. He’s going to be scary.”Lamont Peterson

It was supposed to be his introduction to America. Not to those embedded in the game, for they already know what he’s capable of, but rather a larger audience. Much larger. 82 games in and we were all lining up to be witnesses, a new King was here. The Takeover was just beginning. But then injuries happened, fame happened and his team taking a reverse step happened.

Now Tyreke Evans is suddenly feeling something he isn’t used to: uncertainty. Read More »

Dime Exclusive: Tyson Chandler tells us why Dallas is more dangerous than ever

The Dallas Mavericks have shown us this part before: The gaudy early-season record (16-4), the offense that’s crisp as country bacon (47.5% FG, 3rd in the NBA), the MVP push by Dirk Nowitzki (24.9 ppg, 7.7 rpg). And 100 percent of the time, their impressive early efforts have failed to produce an NBA championship.

Why should anybody believe this year will be different? Because these Mavs are winning with defense and rebounding, two areas in which offseason trade acquisition Tyson Chandler has carved his niche. Read More »

The Dunk Heard ‘Round The World

Chances are you didn’t see High Point (N.C.) University’s 76-73 victory over UNC Asheville on Saturday night, but you definitely need to see this. Junior guard Shay Shine finished the game with 19 points, seven steals, six assists and five rebounds in addition to dunking on Asheville’s 6-10 D.J. Cunningham in the final seconds of the first half. Oh yea, Shine is only 6-2.

Pass The Mic: A Clevelander’s Take on LeBron’s Homecoming

LeBron James

Words. Max Sheridan

The score was 118-90 on Thursday night as LeBron James returned to Cleveland, but don’t be fooled: There were no winners. The night was filled with angry fans, awkward interactions between LeBron and his former teammates, and, for the most part, uninteresting basketball. The game confirmed what we’ve learned over the first month of the NBA season, but taught us nothing else about Miami or Cleveland. Read More »

Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 12.6 (Weekend Recap)

Weekend Wonder: Kevin Garnett looked young this past weekend, averaging 16.5 points, 15.5 rebounds, 5 assists, 1.5 steals, 1 block and 0.5 turnovers in two games this past weekend. He also shot 63 percent from the field and 90 percent from the free-throw line. Garnett is having a great fantasy season so far, though he and his other major Celtics teammates are good sell-high candidates down the line. Read More »
