Dime NBA Power Ranking: Lakers fall outside the Top 5

Ranking the NBA from worst to first…

30. Sacramento Kings (4-14) Last week — Lost to Indiana, lost at L.A. Lakers, lost to Dallas It’s not exactly ideal when, during the last two minutes of a close game against one of the NBA’s elite teams, your announcer says something like “Beno Udrih wants the basketball,” and it’s supposed to be a reason for optimism. The losing streak is at seven. Read More »

Hornets get owned by Spurs before getting owned by Stern

Tony Parker

The Spurs have worn a lot of labels over the years, but we can’t recall a time — even during the Stephen Jackson era — when “explosive” was one of them. Going into last night’s game against New Orleans with the 4th-highest scoring offense in the League, the Spurs went HAM on the Hornets in a 25-point rout that was as good a show of offensive execution as you’ll see this NBA season. Tony Parker (19 pts, 6 asts) was able to turn the corner on Chris Paul and set up floaters for himself and open looks for shooters like Richard Jefferson and Matt Bonner, as six Spurs hit for double-figures, and surprisingly Manu Ginobili wasn’t one of them. Midway through the second quarter, San Antonio was making 75 percent of their field goals while putting N.O. to bed before halftime … Read More »

LeBron, Wade, Bosh dominate ATL; Boozer finally makes his mark

Chris Bosh (photo. David Alvarez)

You ever spent hours working on a project, then within five minutes it became totally useless? That’s how it was for whoever on the Atlanta Hawks production staff spent their time making fake movie posters hyping the Hawks as “The Road Warriors” because they went into last night’s game in Miami with a 7-2 road record, best in the East. About five minutes into the first quarter, however, before they could even show the graphic, LeBron and D-Wade and Bosh led the Heat on a 14-2 run and built a lead Miami would never lose … This was the game we envisioned when the Heat trio first joined forces. Defense and Dirk carries Dallas to Defining Decision over D-Will

Dirk Nowitzki

Defense wins championships, and frankly, that’s why Dirk Nowitzki is in danger of retiring as one of the greatest NBA players to never win a ring. Or maybe not. Breaking from their usual M.O. of too many long jumpers and crunch-time flops, this season the Mavs have been arguably the best team in the League because they have arguably the best defense in the League. Last night in Utah, the Mavs suffocated Deron Williams (12 pts, 7 asts, 4-13 FG) and the Jazz (39.2% FG) to snap the home team’s seven-game win streak … In addition to an 11-0 run to open the fourth quarter, Dallas won with their zone defense, seemingly getting their hands on every pass and creating fast-break buckets. Buy Low, Sell High: Fantasy Week 6

David Lee

Buy Low: David Lee is finally back after missing eight games due to his funky elbow. His three games back since returning have been fine, but not anything to write home about, and the same can be said about his season so far. Lee has taken a step back from his stellar 2009-10 marks in every statistical category except for steals. Nevertheless, he remains an important cog in that Warriors offense and should find his way back into fantasy glory once he starts jelling with his new team. Read More »

We Reminisce: Dwyane Wade’s career-high at Marquette

Because he wasn’t a five-star recruit in high school, and because he played for Marquette before they joined the Big East, Dwyane Wade‘s college career has been glossed over compared to peers like Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul. Most who do remember Wade in college immediately go to the triple-double he put up against Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament, but there was another career night for Wade that has been buried in the archives. In the game against Tulane his junior year highlighted here, Wade dropped a career-high 35 points.

The Knicks Make A Huge Social Media Push With KnicksNow.com

New York Knicks

About a month ago, I started noticing posters and billboards along New York City streets and subways for a New York Knicks website called KnicksNow.com, so of course I had to go check it out. The only problem was when I tried, a username and password authentication screen appeared. Today, I saw a woman with an orange t-shirt displaying the Knicks Now URL on the back of it and decided to revisit the site. The log-in box was replaced with an impressive abundance of Knicks content dating back to early November. Read More »
