Believe it or not, but Muggsy Bogues turned 46 years old yesterday. And while there have been NBA players standing under six-feet since he last laced them up in the 2000-01 season, I doubt there will ever be anyone 5-3 to ever do work like Muggsy did.
Since Rajon Rondo returned from his ankle injury, he has been a problem for opposing teams, with his monster 12-point, 10-rebound, 22-assist, 6-steal ripping of the Spurs last Wednesday serving as Exhibit A. Just in terms of steals, Rondo has 13 in his last three games alone.
During his 5-steal barrage against Chicago over the weekend, Rondo blew past the 60-steal mark for the season. That’s significant because it marks the next milestone in the great Boston’s Got Wings program that is being spearheaded by Rondo and Red Bull and directly benefiting the basketball playing community of Boston. But while people were telling ’Toine what he could and could not do, he decided he was going to go his own route and take his talents to the NBA Development League – where he’s currently averaging 17.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game for the Idaho Stampede. While his surroundings may be different out in Boise, some things remain the same. For one, Walker has reunited with Stampede assistant coach Greg Minor, whom he played with for three seasons (1996-99) in Boston.
