NBA Trade Rumors: Carmelo and Chauncey to New Jersey, three different scenarios

Carmelo Anthony

For whatever reason, Jan. 10 has become the day it seems Carmelo Anthony HAS to be traded. As a result, the rumors are coming out of Denver faster than J.R. Smith can get “Peace Out ‘Melo” tattooed on the three inches of space he has left on his collarbone.

While the particulars vary from report to report, almost everyone is saying there is a three-team deal between the Nuggets, Nets and Pistons that is close to being confirmed by all sides. That would send ‘Melo to New Jersey along with Chauncey Billups and Rip Hamilton, with Devin Harris (Nuggets) and Derrick Favors (Nuggets) among the others prominently involved. The only differences lie in the details involving other players and picks Read More »

Auburn vs. Oregon: The All-Time Alumni Showdown

Ready or not for the NFL, Cam Newton might as well go pro after tonight’s BCS National Championship Game. Not only will his draft stock never be higher, but sticking around the University of Auburn next season means Newton won’t be able to buy a McChicken sandwich without somebody investigating where he got the 99 cents.

When Newton was spotted at Phoenix’s U.S. Airways Center during the Suns/Lakers game on Jan. 5 — looking like an unsigned power forward at 6-6, 250 pounds — it turned into more than just a celebrity sighting at an NBA game. Read More »

LaMarcus has finally learned the meaning of “power” forward

LaMarcus Aldridge

Terry Porter was a very good NBA player and a decent coach, but unfortunately he’s struggling with this new interviewer gig. During last night’s Blazers/Heat game, Porter the sideline reporter spent a few minutes with Brian Grant in one of the Rose Garden luxury suites, stumbling and mumbling for a while before eventually asking Grant about how LaMarcus Aldridge has “transformated” his game into that of a legit post player.

Grant did a smooth job of finding the nicest possible way to say, “The whole NBA is softer than the top of a baby’s head compared to my era, so I guess Aldridge is ‘tough’ by today’s standards.” Read More »

Spurs hang on to beat toughest rival; Cavs go from bad to worse

Apparently the Timberwolves are to the Spurs what the Bobcats were to the Celtics a couple years ago. Remember when the ‘Cats were generally bad, but somehow managed to always give the Big Three C’s a hard time? Last night’s Spurs/Wolves game was the third time in three matchups this year that the game went down to the wire, and the third time San Antonio walked out with a close win … Read More »

Rose vs. Rondo is a rivalry again; Turkish Magic hands out 17 dimes

Derrick Rose

His star-making postseason debut series aside, Derrick Rose had kind of established a script recently whenever he faced the Boston Celtics. The most explosive point guard in the League wouldn’t do anything too spectacular, his counterpart Rajon Rondo would slap up an easy double-double while flirting with 20 assists, and the Bulls would lose in uninspiring fashion. Last night, D-Rose thankfully flipped the script and reignited that Rose/Rondo rivalry we all want to see … Rose dropped 36 points and the Bulls’ interior defense stepped up in crunch time as Chicago snapped Boston’s four-game win streak. Heat, Spurs survive tests from surprise challengers

LeBron James

When you are really good, you find different ways to win. That’s what a few of the league’s best (Miami, San Antonio) continued to do last night … In Milwaukee, the Heat found themselves caught up in a dogfight, getting pushed to the limit by Chris Douglas-Roberts (30 points) of all people. A scoop shot by Earl Boykins (14 points) forced overtime, and then the little guy hit a wild bank shot with 15 seconds left in the extra frame to close the Heat lead to one. But there was just too much LeBron James (26 points) who hit the free throws down the stretch to ice the win for Miami … Read More »
