You may have seen the original images released a while back showing the Tinker Hatfield-designed basketball court at the University of Oregon‘s brand new Matthew Knight Arena, where, from a certain angle, a spectator gets the feeling that he/she is staring up at treetops from the forest floor.
Last night, the guy who runs the Twitter feed @NikeBlog.com posted some pictures of the floor and the arena after taking an exclusive tour of the building. I posted one of them on my Twitter account last night to see what kind of response it got and there was no middle ground – only extremes of love and hate. Check out the pics and let us know what you think… Read More »
Would anybody complain if we altered the NBA schedule so the Spurs and Celtics could play more than twice? We know we wouldn’t mind scrapping another Spurs/Kings or Celtics/Wizards game if that’s what it takes. Last night’s matchup between the current No. 1 seeds in the East and West lived up to its billing as a possible NBA Finals preview … It was tied up with 2:30 to go before Boston ripped off a 9-0 run, which Ray Allen (31 pts, 13-16 FG) capped with a three and an open-court steal on George Hill that he turned into a breakaway layup. But San Antonio didn’t fold that easy. Read More »
Of the four players that are reportedly in for the 2011 NBA All-Star Weekend dunk contest, Brandon Jennings is already the underdog. And not because he’s about a foot shorter than the rest of the comp — Blake Griffin, Serge Ibaka and JaVale McGee — but because Jennings is currently sidelined with a broken foot, and because his NBA dunk resume is pretty bare. It seems like a million different versions of the Nike Hyperdunk 2010 have dropped this year, but I don’t hear anyone complaining. And I must say, I like this version personalized for Danny Granger a lot. Maybe it’s the Pacers colorway, or maybe it’s his “DG 33″ logo embellished on the tongue. Check ‘em out: Read More »
Conventional wisdom used to say big men didn’t do well in dunk contests. Never mind that Larry Nance, Shawn Kemp, Amar’e Stoudemire and Dwight Howard stood as notable exceptions to the rule — the NBA’s All-Star Weekend event has generally been reserved for lanky wings and explosive guards.
Not so much this year. As first reported by the Los Angeles Times, the 2011 NBA dunk contest field is full of big guys: Blake Griffin (6-10), Serge Ibaka (6-11) and JaVale McGee (7-0) are on the preliminary list, along with 6-1 point guard Brandon Jennings. Read More »

During this time, the entire NBA family will join community members and partners to highlight the importance of healthy living and encourage fans to pledge NBA FIT. Also, as you may have noticed last night, the players will wear special on-court attire including NBA FIT shooting shirts from adidas, in addition to blue headbands and wristbands. Through my time covering the NBA, I’ve come to realize that the coaches are as varied as the players. While on the surface all 30 captains may just look like men in suits, they’re actually as different as the appearance of Birdman Andersen and Matt Bonner. But it’s more than simply comparing suits to turtlenecks or beards to mustaches; some guys just get it. And as you’re probably well aware, Phil Jackson is one of those guys. Read More »
