After an outstanding three-year career at Kansas, which included a 2008 NCAA Championship and three Big 12 titles during his tenure, Cole Aldrich was a Lottery pick this June. First selected by the Hornets before being trading to the Thunder on Draft Night, the Bloomington, Minn., native gladly returned to the Midwest. So with everyone’s expectations for the Thunder going through the roof this season, we decided there was no one better to turn to for the inside scoop on life in OKC. In his fifth entry, Cole talks about the D-League Showcase, Serge Ibaka in the dunk contest and his best Christmas gift.Read More »
Trevor Ariza is only 25 years old, but in his seven years in the NBA he’s been through more experiences than a lot of 35-year-old veterans.
Drafted at age 18, Ariza had to fight for a roster spot as a second-round pick. He has played for five pro teams since then, having been traded three times and signing one contract worth nearly $35 million. He has lived in New York City and Los Angeles. He has played with Kobe and Penny and Grant Hill. He has won an NBA championship and played for Lottery teams. He has been an NBA Finals hero and a little-used benchwarmer. Read More »

Carmelo Anthony had that George Gervin flow going once again last night. Not that ‘Melo was dropping mid-range finger rolls or squeezing his skinny body in between some poor team’s Swiss Cheese defense — it was more that Carmelo’s 23-point effort in the third quarter against Indiana was awfully reminiscent of the 33-point quarter he had a couple years ago that tied Iceman’s record for most in a quarter in NBA history … You could say ‘Melo (36 pts, 14-27 FG) channeled Iceman in that there wasn’t as much of that usual bully-style in his buckets. Among the many reasons everybody loves Kevin Durant — such as the fact that he’s a walking case study on the pathology of Acute GetBuckets Syndrome — is that he’s a refreshing break from some of the things people don’t like about sports. No drama, no controversy, no whining: KD is all about basketball. In last night’s Thunder win over the Knicks, Durant again went outside the norm after hitting his biggest shot of the season … Late in the fourth quarter, New York led by six after Amar’e Stoudemire‘s follow dunk that seemed to suck the energy out of OKC’s gym. It’s the never-ending NBA dilemma: Young teams don’t win championships, but old teams don’t have bright futures. So how do you balance the roster if you want to win now and keep winning later? … The Spurs may be figuring it out. In last night’s win over the Knicks, we saw the old San Antonio regime mesh with the new: Tim Duncan (21 points, 16 rebounds, 5 blocks) turned in a throwback performance and dominated Amar’e Stoudemire (18 points, 15 rebounds, 4 steals). Those numbers might not show it, but Duncan and DeJuan Blair (18 points, 13 rebounds) had STAT flustered the entire game … Read More »
What to watch during Friday’s 10-game NBA schedule:
Steve Nash vs. John WallSuns at Wizards, 7 p.m. EST, League Pass
Flip Saunders isn’t even trying to protect his star rookie’s potentially fragile psyche before Round 2 with the two-time MVP. “Nash destroyed (Wall) last time,” Saunders told the Washington Post.
Cold, but true. Nash played about as perfect a game for a point guard as possible in Phoenix’s blowout win over Washington on Dec. 5, dropping 20 points on 8-for-8 shooting from the field and 3-for-3 at the line, adding 17 assists and only turning the ball over twice. Read More »
