We Reminisce: The Best of John Stockton and Karl Malone

The Utah Jazz are struggling. Last night’s 29-point loss to the Lakers was the team’s 5th straight defeat, and while Deron Williams and Co. are still only a game and a half behind the Thunder in the Northwest Division, they have dropped to 6th place in the Western Conference.

Utah could use a little help going into tonight’s tip-off with the West-leading Spurs (ESPN, 9:30 p.m. EST). Last time I looked, Karl Malone and John Stockton are both in pretty good shape and wouldn’t need to re-learn the playbook, but Jerry Sloan will probably explore some other options first.

It’s a shame they never won a ring.

I was about to post, jeez, for a couple guys with so many records, these plays weren’t all that entertaining.

But then I got to #1 – what an electric atmosphere and reaction from the players!

I used to hate Stockton and Malone because I just found them boring. But you cant argue with the fundamental and efficient way they played so now that Im older I can appreciate it as how basketball should be played.

That was probably the most dry and least entertaining top 10 i’ve ever seen. Not because Stock and Malone didn’t have great highlights, but because whoever put that video together found the absolute most boring plays they could between stock and Malone. I can name off the top of my head at least 5 better plays than the 2-10 plays. Whichever one of you posted this video i’m assuming you didn’t actually watch the video or you just don’t know much about Stockton and Malone.

I subscribe to the post above

I’m all for cloning to bring another 20 years of Stock and Malone to Utah…

Oh yeah, as for boring. I’d watch their “boring” play any day, at least they consistently won. I’m just about ready for them to blow the whole thing up here and start all over from nothing.

As a Rockets fan, I hated Stockton and Malone growing up. But damn was that pick and roll effective

Boring, only because they rarely did more than what was necessary.

and “boring” is subjective. The way Stockton ran that offense was very entertaining to me. I loved watching the Jazz play back then.

boring? nah. Flashy? definitely not. Maybe thats why it seems boring to some, or did at one point. The type of ball these two played cant be appreciated by the casual basketball observer. Also agree with the post above, “they rarely did more than what was necessary.”

I love how they never even acknowledge each other after the buckets. Most guys high five or at least give props to the other guy…not these two. It was expected.

Boring!!!!!!!!!!! Loved when Jordan and crew smashed on these guys as well as the Lakers today. Hate that city!!!!!!!!!!!

actually to be real, it wasnt stockton or his passes that were boring, it was karl malones finishes. very dry but stockton was a wizard with the rock, def why i like watching steve nash play. he was deadly efficient with the rock. ya know whats bad, i hated watching malone. tim duncan may not have been flashy but i can watch him play any day
