Duke vs. North Carolina: NBA Alumni Game

In one of the most storied rivalries in sports, Duke and North Carolina played last night at Cameron Indoor Stadium, in what turned out to be a great game. For a collegiate clash that date’s all the way back to 1920, Duke got their 100th win in the all-time series, although UNC still leads 130-100. With everyone still buzzing about Tobacco Road this morning, we decided to ponder what an alumni game with current NBA players would look like today.

I’m not sure who would win, but if we can get ‘Sheed to coach UNC, I’ll pay double for a ticket.

Dukes guards would get eaten up!

  • Alex “Robocop” Murphy

UNC would win. Duke has no point guards. And Corey Maggette is the only guy on the team that can get his own shot off. Sorry Grant Hill this isn’t 1997.

  • Adrian Zapata

I would start Grant Hill at PG any day (even at his current age) over Chris Duhon.

    Carolina would win.

PS. UCONN has a better starting 5 of Pros

Even though Chris Duhon hasn’t been as fast or agile since playing for the Knicks and getting banged up, he still knows how to play as a pure point guard distributing the ball. Felton may be faster but with the lineups listed above, Duhon would rack up assists because of Brand, Boozer, and Deng. Since Redick has developed a game beyond shooting the long three, he may even play good minutes as a guard. Dahntay Jones and Josh McRoberts have shown athleticism going to the basket with dunks for the Pacers so they add depth.
Grant Hill still shows that he can play and score sometimes even more consistently than a battered Vince Carter although may be more explosive for a couple of plays. Shane Battier could play Defense in for Redick

    For UNC-Chapel Hill
Tyler Hansbrough would help Carolina. I may even start Ty Lawson over Felton although Felton can score more when he gets hot. Some of the other Carolina greats are showing a little rust in the League. They would play great for a Carolina-Duke alumni game.

I’ll have to give the head nod to Duke here.
