LeBron Crushes Cavs in Round 3

LeBron James

It’s just sad now. Or maybe it’s still funny. The Cavs have become the NBA’s charity case, worse than the Washington Generals because at least the Generals aren’t trying to win. The Cavs are getting to that part of the movie when head coach Martin Lawrence is at the end of his rope and needs a pep talk from an 11-year-old … During last night’s 27-point rout at the hands of LeBron James and the Heat, one Miami announcer sighed, “Oh, that woebegone look in the eyes of these Cleveland Cavaliers.” This was during a fourth-quarter run where LeBron was chilling on the bench and Dwyane Wade (34 pts, 7 rebs, 5 asts), Mike Miller (10 pts, 11 rebs), and Eddie House were taking turns pouring in buckets. (Thankfully, House resisted the urge to pull out his unit.) A few minutes later, Erik Spoelstra subbed in the garbage-time lineup of House, Miller, Carlos Arroyo, Juwan Howard and Erick Dampier, and even they outplayed the Cleveland carcasses on the court … LeBron had an easy 24 points and 8 assists, and he got the highlight dunk we were all waiting for when the Heat destroyed Cleveland that first time. The drive and cram on Christian Eyenga (LBJ’s replacement at small forward) and J.J. Hickson (his replacement as the franchise building block) was something of a statement dunk. But later on, Manny Harris caught LeBron with a two-hand dunk in transition … With 21 straight L’s under their belt, the Cavs’ next chance to snap the streak will be Wednesday against the Pacers, who were at home last night for the debut of the Frank Vogel era. Not sure if it was the Midwest winter storm warning or just the fact that the Raptors were on the schedule, but the crowd at Conseco Fieldhouse couldn’t have been more than 1,000 people … Word out of Indy is that Vogel will stay the rest of the season. So when it comes time to pick a new coach, you can bet Roy Hibbert will campaign to keep Vogel. Hibbert (24 pts, 11 rebs) got the rock early and often last night, and after Toronto got close in the fourth quarter, he shut the door with and-one layups and turnaround J’s from the left block. With nothing better to do, Pacers fans chanted “double-double” for Big Boy Roy … As the final seconds ticked down and Indiana had the W in hand, Darren Collison jacked an unnecessary three that dropped with about 0.5 left on the clock. The refs let the game end there, but while Vogel stood around waiting to shake hands with the opposing coach, Jay Triano was in the middle of the court dodging cheerleaders to argue with one ref that he’d called a timeout. The ref basically said something along the lines of “Who cares?” before a livid Triano stormed off the floor without acknowledging Vogel. According to Toronto’s announcers, Triano wanted the timeout as payback for Collison’s trey. As one announcer put it: “I think Jay was saying, ‘OK, you’re gonna play like that; we’re gonna play like this.’” … Wasn’t the better time to get all proud and send messages somewhere between tip-off and the end of the fourth quarter? What’s with all the wounded feelings now? And they say the NBA is getting soft …Read More>>

@dagwaller Courtesy of ESPN.com Minnesota’s rebounds per game are the most in the league. 45.1(for) + 42.5(opp) = The most rebounds available per game 87.6. Kevin Love is spectacular at what he does. He just so happens to have more rebounds to go after. :-)

About Orlando – Live by the 3 die by the 3. Just recently they lost to Chicago and Detroit with off shooting nights. He nearly had a 20-20 vs. Toronto, in that game Orlando didn’t shoot great but Howard was there to clean EVERYTHING up.

Dwight has his fair share of Offensive rebounds 4 a game but his damage usually comes from the defensive end.

@QQ LOL… Nash doesn’t have Amar’e! or Marion, putting up the same numbers and his teams are losing because they don’t have Amar’e! or Marion. We now see that so people can call into question his MVP throphies.

KG isn’t averaging 15 boards a game. He has great shooters around him.
Z-Bo has Rudy Gay throwing “passes” off the back of the rim and he is averaging 13 a game.
Reggie Evans was around 16 a game for a while in Toronto. We all know how well they shoot the ball.

So yes, I’m sorry for putting a damper on the awesomeness known as Kevin Love because I brought up the fact his team can’t shoot. Put Kevin on a different team and he still averages at least 12 because he is that good.

Ask David Lee which team has better shooters, NY or Golden State? Or look at his rebounding averages.

“Rebounding does have a team aspect to it as much as it is a player’s focus/timing/positioning/will to want the ball more than the other guy.”

You use the words “as much as” so you’re saying the team shares equal praise for Love’s rebounding? Do you honestly feel that way?

IMO, Love is the most amazing rebounder I’ve seen since Rodman. and he might be more impressive because he’s effective all over the court… passing, shooting 3s, setting picks, etc. When was the last time you saw a big man who could bring his defender out to the perimeter but still be a beast on the offensive boards. We can’t say for certain but, in my mind, I doubt Rodman would have grabbed as many rebounds as he did if he spent some time out in the perimeter being an offensive threat.

  • dagwaller

LeBron James’s team is about as good as it was last year, his stats are about as good as they were last year, so I guess, F&F, that we can call his MVP into question, also.

So Kevin Love’s team is involved in the most rebounds per game in the NBA? Makes sense, they have the League’s leading rebounder on their team.

Offensive rebounds are still rebounds, and someone still has to try and get them. Having more AVAILABLE rebounds doesn’t mean that Love WILL get them. Those could be more rebounds for the other team’s big man. But they’re not. They’re Kevin Love’s.

and how do you explain his great rebounding at the World Chamionships??

He only played under 9min/gm but still managed to average 5 boards.
Of his 44 rebounds… 16 were on the offensive end. That’s more than a third similar to what he’s doing in the league. Additionally, the team shot below 50% in just 3 of their games… and shot +60% 4 times.
In his best 2 games, he grabbed 10 and 11… and in one of those games he played just 13min and pulled 5 O-rbs. <– the team shot 62% that game.

You're very good at explaining yourself, so explain that one.

@ JAY to stand by my words, YES. Players don’t just score 100 points by themselves. Their team has to constantly feed him the ball, get out the way and then commit fouls to extend the game. Players don’t rack up 30 assists by themselves. Others need to be making shots. You don’t get 10 blocks by yourself, shots are being funneled to you. You don’t get 10 steals by yourself, others are pressuring the ball or closing passing lanes. The individual gets the stat but it was caused by the team.

Plain and simple you can’t rebound on a made basket. What did I say that was sooooo wrong?

Kobe scored 81 points by himself. That was a team effort [or lack their of]. In order for Lebron to get a triple double his team has to make shots, force the opponent to miss while he roams for rebounds.

C’mon now, not like he is Shooting the 3 and getting the same rebound. Every play doesn’t call for him to be out there like a Dirk, Bargs, Matt Bonner, Brian Cardinal, Rashard Lewis.

  • Claw

@First – Here is what you need to look at is the difference between Minny (87.6) and Orlando (82.8) is 5 boards (rounded). So Minny does get 5 extra boards but you have to divide that by number of players and minutes played and at the high end that might account for 1 extra board for Love vs DHow.

Love is 15.6, Dhow in second at 13.6 so you take 1 board away from Love and he’d still be leading the league in boards at 14.6, worst case use 2 boards and he’d still lead the league.

After watching him play he just gets boards, loose ones and others by position plus he has an offensive game to complement his boards and he’s helping my fantasy team to a possible back to back championship!

“C’mon now, not like he is Shooting the 3 and getting the same rebound. Every play doesn’t call for him to be out there like a Dirk, Bargs, Matt Bonner, Brian Cardinal, Rashard Lewis.”

It doesn’t matter man. He’s out on the perimeter and still banging the O-boards. When was the last time there was a player in the league who could hit the 3 and still be a beast on the offensive glass.
If he can’t answer this question, can someone else do it for him? It’s a pretty simple question.

And since you’re throwing out total team rebounds… in Minnesota games there are an average of 87.60 rebounds on both sides of the ball. Indiana games are right behind them averaging 86.96… yet nobody on Indiana is averaging more than 8. Explanation please.

  • Claw

On my analysis I should have taken Love’s % of boards to teams boards multiplied by 5 and since Love has 1/3rd of the Wolves boards his extra boards compared to DHow is actually 1.5. At 14.1 he’d still be leading the league.

WTH is going on, KLove, Griff, Deron Williams, Westbrook, DRose none of these guys have nicknames! Not feeling Darantula either.

  • First & Foremost

@Jay – let me think about that one for a minute
@dagwaller – I think you missed my point. In the games that the wolves play. There are on average 87 rebounds a game, which is more per game than any other team. So the leading rebounder SHOULD come from that team. Not always but if you have more rebounds going around it does give you a better chance of leading the league.
Games involving Detriot only provide 80 rebounds, just eyeballing the numbers that appears to be the lowest. Detriot’s leading rebound is at 6.3 a game. Who knows the pistons may just tap the ball out of bounds all game long.

@Jay I hate you today. Anyway, no one. Fine, you happy now? No one shoots and makes 3′s while still getting his. HOWEVER!!! he is not camped out at the 3 point line. There are plays when he drifts there. I watched the Wizards game and he hit at least 2 just by being a trailor. Not like he is sizing up his defender and nailing step back 3′s over people. If the situation calls for it he will step out but otherwise you can find him on the mid-block or in a pick n roll grabbing Ridnour’s missed floater.
P.S. I’m still working on the World’s explanation

  • First & Foremost

With all these people defending Kevin Love you’d think they all went out and voted for him to make the All-Star game.

  • First & Foremost

EUREKA!!! The World’s lacked competition. Even though big men were the weakest area for USA the best of the best were still missing from around the World. I was on here as much as the next person and the USA did have stretches where they didn’t shoot all that well. Igudala wasn’t the greatest of shooters but he still shot the ball pretty bad. Off hand that’s all I got right now.

I’m feeling like Kobe vs. the Celtics out here today.

  • http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/files/you_re_a_homo_767.jpg JAY

LOL!!! @Jay I hate you today.
No worries bro. We’re cool. I just enjoy the debates. Let’s not let this “argument” turn into personal insults and I’m straight.

and for the record, I hate you today too. Lol. Too many explanations…

“EUREKA!!! The World’s lacked competition. Even though big men were the weakest area for USA the best of the best were still missing from around the World.”

HAHA! I was thinking the same shit.
No other rebounders on the team… nice job.

Anyway, that’s my work day. Lol. See y’all tomorrow.
If you guys are in the snowy parts of the continent, drive safe fukkers

Haha First, great posts. Still disagree – see Claw @ post 58.

Ugh Jay – still another hour here, and THEN the weather.

  • Claw

@JAY – It is supposed to get down to 28 tonight in Phoenix and a very cold 48 during the day. Might have to bust out a jacket!
