D-Rose d-rops 42 on San Antonio; All-Star Weekend 2011 is here

Derrick Rose (photo. Chad Griffith)

Has it really come to this? Derrick Rose can drop a 40-ounce on the best team in the League, the team with a 13-time All-Defensive pick patrolling the paint, and it’s not even a big surprise? At least it wasn’t to D-Rose, whose reaction at the end of his 42-point torching of the San Antonio Spurs last night had all the enthusiasm of a guy stuck in morning traffic … Chicago was up by seven at halftime, when Rose already had 21 points. He opened the third quarter in a brief jump shot duel with Tim Duncan, then took a backseat as Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer got theirs. Read More »

Kevin Durant Joins Elite Group With Kobe Bryant & John Wall

It wasn’t enough that Kevin Durant was voted in as a starter in this Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game, he also had to make some noise before All-Star Weekend even officially got underway. This morning, Durant signed an exclusive multi-year agreement for trading cards and memorabilia with Panini America (which will include product and brand advertising), joining an elite group of official company spokesmen than includes Kobe Bryant and John Wall. Below, check out an exclusive interview with KD, inside his house during his first signing session.

Brandon Jennings’ Home Court Gets The All-Star Treatment

Brandon Jennings' Home Court Gets All-Star Treatment

One of the best parts of having All-Star Weekend in or around your hometown, is that you get to come home and do some good for your old neighborhood. And today, Brandon Jennings is doing just that. Jennings and Under Armour have teamed up to bring a state-of-the-art basketball court renovation to Rowley Park in his hometown of Gardena, Calif. As his original home court, we can just imagine the type of damage Young Money would have done back in the day if the park looked this good. Read More »

All-Star Update: Tyreke out, Harden in for Rookie Challenge

James Harden

If you’re planning on placing a bet on the NBA All-Star Rookie Challenge, well, you have a gambling problem. But beyond that, you might want to be wary of backing the Sophomores.

Brandon Jennings has been struggling since returning from foot surgery in late-January, Taj Gibson and DeJuan Blair will be technically playing the second half of a back-to-back and probably going even less hard than usual in an exhibition game, and I don’t see too many people on the Sophomore roster who can guard rookies Blake Griffin or John Wall. Blake Griffin Is The New Editor-In-Chief Of Myspace (And Hilarious)

Blake Griffin

It seems like it’s been a minute since anyone’s been talking about Myspace. I mean, put it this way: The movie The Social Network wasn’t about them. But with that said, they appear to be making a comeback. That is, with the help of Blake Griffin. As part of their “Hijacks” program, which has seen everyone from Jack Black to Russell Simmons takeover the site, Griffin brings tons of personality and humor to the site for All-Star Weekend. In addition to exclusive footage of “The Rim Reaper” dunking with a camera literally strapped to his head, the following two videos of him sitting down with comedian Ben Gleib are absolutely hilarious: Read More »

Dime Exclusive: Josh Smith handicaps the 2011 Dunk Contest

Josh Smith

It doesn’t seem like that long ago, but it’s been six years since Josh Smith put his name in the NBA All-Star history books with an impressive Slam Dunk contest showing that earned him the 2005 dunk championship.

In what was argubaly the best contest since Vince went HAM in 2000 — featuring a J.R. Smith behind-the-back dunk and a Steve Nash alley-oop header to Amar’e Stoudemire — Josh wowed the Denver crowd with a windmill over a seated Kenyon Martin, and another powerful windmill while wearing a Dominique Wilkins jersey, among others.
