CARLOS BOOZER
Carlos Boozer is a beast. Attitude; toughness; well-manicured beard; he has it all. Say what you will about his injury problems and his “conniving” ways (refer to Cavs ’04), the dude can flat-out play. Having been groomed by arguably the best two coaches in basketball history for the majority of his career — Mike Krzyzewski with Duke/USA Basketball, Jerry Sloan in Utah — Boozer was molded into the disciplined, hard-nosed, high-IQ player he is today. In case you haven’t noticed, Chris Bosh is putting in work.
At the beginning of this season, when every bump in the road for the Miami Heat was magnified, Bosh’s struggles defined a team still finding its identity. As I’ve written before, I’m sure Bosh has never (outside of All-Star or Team USA situations) been the third-best player on his team and clearly needed an adjustment period, but following the events of the 2010 summer, none of these Big Three were getting any leeway, including the guy being called “And Bosh” in the Dime office. After checking out the Reebok ZigTech Slash designed for John Wall‘s All-Star Weekend debut, it appears other people have been taking advantage of the option to customize their kicks. Most notably, top high school recruit (and Wall’s friends) Quincy Miller. Maybe it’s the Baylor colorway (where he’s headed next year), or maybe it’s his “Miller Time” signature detailed on the back, but either way I could get down. Check ‘em out: Read More »
If you’ve been checking the NBA hardwood, you’ve noticed that a ton of guys are wearing the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse this season. With that said, check out what Nike Basketball put together for Shawn Marion. Maybe it’s the Mavericks colorway, or maybe it’s his “Matrix” signature detailed on the side, but either way I like it. Anybody who was paying attention to — or even trying to avoid — the ongoing Carmelo Anthony contract/trade/free agency saga this season probably expected ‘Melo to be playing for the Eastern Conference All-Stars come Feb. 20. And yet here it is, four days before the All-Star Game, and ‘Melo is still in the West, still with the Denver Nuggets.
But that doesn’t mean a ‘Melo trade isn’t right around the corner. According to Newsday, the New York Knicks are willing to give up Danilo GallinariorWilson Chandler to get Carmelo, and aren’t opposed to giving up Ray Felton either if it means they’d get Chauncey Billups from Denver. Read More »
Although his reel of in-game dunks is about as short as he is, it’s hard to argue with that fact that Nate Robinson is one of the best dunkers in NBA history. He’s competed in four of the last five dunk contests, and won three of them – making him the only three-time dunk champion in NBA history. And when you think about it, at 5-9, it would be incredible if he just did dunked, period. So in anticipation of this year’s All-Star Saturday Night, we got up with Kryptonate to talk about his dunk legacy and this year’s contest. Read More »
Beast of the Night: Channing Frye posted 31 points, 11 rebounds, one assist, one steal and hit six three-pointers last night. He shot 75 percent (12-16) from the field, 50 percent (1-2) from the free-throw line and had two turnovers. Through seven games in February, Frye is averaging 16.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, 3.1 threes and 1.1 blocks per game. The rebounds and threes will come down a bit before the end of the month, but there’s no denying Frye’s turnaround from his struggles earlier this season.
I’ll leave the intro to LeBron James via his Twitter account: “Great win for us tonight in Indy! @dwadeofficial went Ham tonight and probably threw the best pass in NBA history. Check it out.”
On his way to dropping 22 points in the first quarter of what looked like a blowout in the making, Dwyane Wade‘s best play of the night was an assist: He got a defensive rebound, turned without dribbling and fired a 90-foot dart that LeBron caught in mid-air for a layup. Incredible. Wade’s awareness to turn and immediately make that read, then the accuracy to throw a pass Tom Brady would’ve been proud of, is why he really might be the best basketball player in the world. He finished with 41 points (16-29 FG) and 12 rebounds … Read More »
