Eleven NBA championships, five league MVP’s, two NCAA championships, one Olympic gold medal, a spot in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. And yet, at 77 years old, Bill Russell received his highest honor yet when he was presented with a Presidential Medal of Freedom earlier today. Russell is one of an obviously select group of athletes to receive the honor, joining the likes of John Wooden, Hank Aaron, Muhammad Ali, Jesse Owens, Richard Petty and 2011 recipient Stan Musial, among others. Russell is the first person with NBA ties to receive the Medal of Freedom.

Los Angeles, with its inhabiting hoop masses engulfed in all things Lakers and Blake Griffin, may not be the ideal fan surroundings for a die-hard Portland Trail Blazers supporter. But when you’re making the sort of moves – both on and off the court – that 33-year-old actor and basketball junkie Joel David Moore is making, L.A. is not so bad. Read More »
When I was out in L.A. two weeks ago for Nike’s All-Star Pre-Heat event, I got to check out firsthand the kicks that Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Kevin Durant will be wearing this weekend.
