Basketball doesn’t always feel like it should. Sometimes it feels diluted. Sometimes it just feels off. Maybe it’s the angles. Everybody has one. Someone is always worried about numbers. Someone is always worried about legacy. Someone is always worried about ego.
In times like these, it helps to find a stronger version of hoops. And by stronger, I mean smaller. Read More »
I’ve grown so accustomed to college basketball’s one-and-done culture that now it’s startling to see an NCAA team with as much veteran poise as Duke. The current landscape has also trained me to stop looking at a team like North Carolina and making predictions for next year.
In the Blue Devils’ latest win over their blood rivals this week, the defending national champions were down 14 at halftime as Carolina was beating Duke at their own game in their own gym. Read More »

Deron Williams hasn’t exactly been his normal reliable self so far this month. While he’s dishing out 11 assists per game, he’s also averaging four turnovers a game, while shooting just 43 percent from the field. That said, he’s still D-Will, and with the reported tension between him and ex-coach Jerry Sloan in his rearview mirror, fantasy owners can bank on Williams bouncing back for the rest of the season. Also, the All-Star break is near, which means extra time to rest that bum wrist of his. Read More »
Shannon Brown has officially arrived. Not only has the 25-year-old arguably become the best player off the bench in only his third season with the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers, but he is destroying opposing defenders from everywhere on the floor. And when the Lakers have needed an offensive spark – outside of that Kobe guy – they have begun to rely on the hard-working Chi-Town native. Read More »
Beast of the Night:Chauncey Billups posted 30 points, five rebounds, nine assists, three steals, a block and five three-pointers. He shot 53 percent (10-19) from the field, 100 percent (5-5) from the free-throw line and had three turnovers. This was especially good to see given that he missed the game before this with a knee injury, which appears to have been minor now. Trade possibilities aside, Billups has worked past his early-season struggles to be a top-25 fantasy player once again. Read More »
If we really thought Kobe Bryant is the most cold-hearted villain in professional sports and deserving of a role opposite Tobey Maguire in the next Spider-Man flick, here’s what we would have said happened last night: Kobe let Ray Allen have the first half, then spent the second half ruining Ray’s shining moment, then used the final minute to stick the proverbial rusty ice pick in Ray’s ribcage on national TV and in front of Ray’s girl and his Moms. But that’s only if we thought Kobe is really, truly cold like that. Surely everything that happened last night was mere coincidence … Read More »
It’s been a week since my first Los Fearless experience, and going into this past Tuesday night, I’d be lying if I said I knew what to expect. To catch everyone up to speed, Los Fearless is Nike’s secret 2-on-2 tournament; set to throw down during NBA All-Star weekend in L.A. In the Los Fearless circle, which includes 128 of us “Chosen Elite” as Nike says, our team is known as “Birdman’s Tattoo Advisors.” Because, why not? Read More »
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you’ve seen that Ray Allen is extremely close to breaking the all-time NBA three-point record when the Celtics face the Lakers in Boston tonight. In fact, Allen only needs to make two treys to break Reggie Miller’s career mark of 2,560. Yesterday, we got up with Ray for an exclusive Q&A to talk about the record, and how he’s become one of the NBA’s greatest shooters of all time. Read More »
