John Wall vs Zydrunas Ilgauskas Fight

We mentioned it in Smack this morning – John Wall and Big Z sort of got into it last night in Washington. You can’t really call this a “fight,” because Zydrunas seems fairly amused by the whole thing and he doesn’t really fight back, even after Wall delivers a serious right-handed body blow to his rib cage.

Afterward, this is what Wall had to say about the skirmish:

    McGee just came over to be the big enforcer of his team, but hes not stupid enough to get fined, suspended, or kicked out of the game. 1 punch cost at least $25,000 plus basketball aint worth fighting over anyway. sounds like you would have boxed howard up got kicked out the game like an idiot and not help you team win against the heat and the next two teams you face…weak!

    No, I would have pulled my teammate away and not got involved with a player from the other team who wasnt even involved in the incident! And for your infomation, McGee is stupid enough to throw a punch and get suspended and not help his team win games….he punched his own teammate earlier this year!!…WEAK

    saying that hes a pussy cause he didnt want to get fined seems a bit much, like i said he just came over there to show force not to box anyone. if you would have went over and pulled me away from big Z after he elbowed me in the face then i would have thought that you dont step up for your teammates, McGees the biggest guy on the wizards and if thers a fight about to go down then i dont want you to come and pull me away, i want you to come in looking like you wanna fight and you got my back. if big Z elbows me again are you gonna pull me away again and again, when are you gonna be the enforcer on out team and not a pussy like you claim McGee is…WEAK

    can anyone tell me why the hell was John Wall playing D on big Z? did miami force a switch in that play?

    espn and all highlights were just replaying the big Z flying elbows and the John Wall rib cage punch 20 times, without showing what caused the Wall to guard Z to begin with.

    NYK it was pretty clear that it was the quick loose ball, Z and Wall both went after it. All you had to do was watch the video..

    I’m a fan of Wall’s game, but he definitely overreacted to Z throwing an appropriate # of elbows for someone being in his shirt like that.

    That and there’s no way I’m taking on someone at least a foot taller than I.

    You are completely missing my point, Ive got no problem with a player playing the enforcer role, but McGee didnt do that! He came in looking all tough and got into it with Howard not Big Z! He didnt have Walls back coz he didnt step up to the guy that elbowed him, he got into it with someone who wasnt even involved in the incident! What sort of enforcer does that? My original point was that McGee is all bark and no bite, unless its outside a club with one of his teammates.

    What would have happened back in the day if it had been Karl Malone or Mutombo swinging the ‘bows’? Wall would have been picking himself and his teeth off the floor…after he regained consciousness. Big Z just let him know that he could have clocked him for sticking his head in but he did not really hit him hard.
