It definitely can’t hurt having one of the NBA’s best players as an alumnus of your school – just look at the feet of some Syracuse players tonight when they tip-off against Indiana State. What you’ll see is a special colorway of the Jordan Melo M7 designed by 16-year-old Allen Largin as part of Jordan Brand’s Future Sole program. Oh yeah, and ‘Melo will be wearing these too when the Knicks head to Detroit to face Largin’s hometown Pistons. Read More »

The butler did it…again. Yesterday’s miraculous buzzer-beater lay-in by Matt Howard to beat Old Dominion had me reminiscing over Butler’s miraculous run last year to the national championship game as a five-seed. Does this mean we’re in for a repeat performance? Not so sure. You see, there’s a certain breadstick-eating, prepubescent-looking piece missing from this year’s team that was crucial in the Bulldogs’ triumphant run last year. That boyish charm I’m referring to is none other than Gordon Hayward, who bolted to the NBA after his epic sophomore season in Indianapolis. Read More »

With fantasy basketball playoffs in full swing, deals are a bit difficult to pull off – which is a bummer for fantasy owners who are trying to compete for a championship with a less-than-ideal roster. However, that doesn’t mean owners with slipshod rosters in the playoffs have to sit and watch with their hands tied behind their backs. The waiver wires in most leagues are still filled with valuable players who can give you a small boost should you need one. Read More »

It’s not a sprawling city, nor the mecca of all things urban where Washington’s diminutive and demonstrative point guard Isaiah Thomas grew up. No, I’m guessing Tacoma, Wash., with its evergreens – the Western Hemlock is the state tree, and yes, I looked that up – and mountainous skyline doesn’t have the same hoops culture as New York City.
But that indeed is where the point guard who’s the closest thing to the Bronx’s Kemba Walker grew up. Thomas, dubbed a “little monster” by Arizona head coach Sean Miller, brings a dangerous No. 7 seed Washington Husky squad into the NCAA Tournament with gusto. The team just might be as underrated as their pint-sized leader. Read More »

After an efficient sophomore year in which he averaged 13.0 points on 45.5 percent shooting, including 47.4 percent from distance, Marquette guard Darius Johnson-Odom took his game a step further this season. By upping his scoring average by nearly three points and making big strides on the defensive end, he became an All-Big East Second Team selection and led Marquette to a 9-9 record in the toughest conference in America. DJO will now try to use his pure shooting stroke and defensive toughness to advance his 11th-seeded Golden Eagles deep into March. Darius has agreed to take Dime readers along with him on the journey, which begins Friday in Cleveland against 6th-seeded Xavier. Here are his words: Read More »
