Dime Q&A: NBA Players Make Their Picks, Name Their Sleepers

David Lee

The bracket is out, let the hysteria begin. It seems like everyone around the country is amped about the Big Dance this year. Who wouldn’t be? With the tournament as wide open as it is, it really could be anybody’s year. (I’m looking at you, Long Beach State.) With many NBAers having their respective alma maters back in the tourney, we thought it’d be dope to get their insight into this year’s madness. With that, we caught up with David Lee, Anthony Morrow and Sundiata Gaines to discuss some bracketology. Read More »

Breaking Down The Bracket: Top 4 Tips From Greg Anthony

Greg Anthony

As the official sports drink of the NCAA Tournament, Powerade teamed up with CBS yesterday to offer a last-minute cram session to help all the frantic bracketeers make sense of March Madness. A panel of bracket experts – led by college basketball analyst Greg Anthony – held one-on-one bracket consultations for visitors, while Powerade unveiled its “ION4-Point Performance Ranking System,” a customized ranking system using four key elements essential to teams’ success in the tournament. But if you’re looking for a quick fix, here are the top four bracket tips that Anthony preaches: Read More »

Breaking Down The Bracket: By Mascot

Breaking Down The Bracket: By Mascot

We all know that not everyone that fills out a bracket follows college basketball, let alone sports. So how do non-sports fans fill out brackets? Some go with team colors, players’ names they like, or school names. You name it, it’s probably been done. And it probably hasn’t worked too well either.

But one of the most common ways non-fans pick teams is through mascots. With that, I decided to do some research and found that this year, 35 percent of teams share a mascot with another team in the tourney. Read More »

Breaking Down The Bracket: By Conference

Breaking Down The Bracket: By Conference

The Big East got the most bids out of any conference with an NCAA Tournament record 11. And with Connecticut, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse, the league also have the most teams capable of going far. But despite the conference’s gaudy numbers, there’s a good chance that the national champions will come from elsewhere. Duke (ACC), Ohio State (Big Ten) and Kansas (Big 12) are three of the most popular choices to win it all so far, and they come from around the country. Here’s a breakdown of who’s in the Big Dance from each conference and which teams have the best shot of winning it all. Read More »

Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 3.15

Marcus Thornton

Beast of the Night: Marcus Thornton scored a career-high 42 points to go along with three rebounds, one assist, four steals and four three-pointers made. He shot 65 percent (13-20) from the field, 86 percent (12-14) from the free-throw line and had no turnovers. With Tyreke Evans still struggling to return from a bout with plantar fasciitis, it looks like Thornton’s hot fantasy value is safe for the time being. Read More »

Dime Q&A: Tyler Hansbrough Will Be Pulling For A Team Other Than North Carolina In NCAA Tourney

Tyler Hansbrough

Logging his fourth 20-plus point performance in a row, and coming off the best game of his short pro career (29 points, eight rebounds), Tyler Hansbrough seems to be carving himself a niche in the Pacers rotation. Despite his recent surge with the navy and gold, it’s still difficult to get used to him donned in anything but Carolina Blue. Not too far removed from his playing days as a Tar Heel – where he was regarded as a deity – you would think UNC would be the only No. 2 seed he’d be cheering for in this year’s tourney. Think again. The Heat Crack the NBA’s Best Team; the Warriors Learn that Karma is a B**ch

Dwyane Wade

When Miami plays like they did last night against the Spurs, you can see why people get all fired up and revert back to the hyperbole they used when they would talk about the Miami in the offseason. They’ll win 70 games! It’s not “Will they win a title?” It’s “How many?” The Heat looked great last night, destroying San Antonio 110-80. Miami was faster to the ball, faster on the break, better on defense and just in attack mode all night long … Case in point: The Spurs were battling their way back into the game in the third quarter, chipping away at the lead. Then on back-to-back possessions Dwyane Wade (29 points) got a defensive board and raced down the floor to toss an alley oop to LeBron (21, eight dimes, six boards). The next play saw LeBron get a rebound and fire a perfect outlet strike to Wade for a breakaway dunk. It was like two haymakers landing flush on the Spurs’ chin for a knockout, pushing the lead back to 20. Ballgame … Read More »
