If Jacob Tucker is the country’s best dunker you’ve never seen, then Doug Anderson has to be his cousin. (Well, you know what I mean.) The 6-6 forward from Mott Community College in Flint, Mich. has a 48-inch vertical and some ridiculous highlights. As my boy said in the e-mail, “This kid could easily be the best dunker in college basketball this year.”
For years, I’ve said that the Big East Tournament makes up my five favorite days of the basketball year. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the NCAA tournament or the NBA Playoffs, but to me, it doesn’t get better than many of the best teams in the college playing in the biggest city in the country in the World’s Most Famous Arena. Thursday’s games were just more testimony to my already strong beliefs. Here are my awards from Day 3… Read More »
I can still remember that final minute at Ford Field. It was March 2008 and Kansas was squaring off against Cinderella story Davidson in the Elite Eight; Stephen Curry was having the tournament run of his life. I was in the stands that day in Motown sitting among the Davidson fans, wearing the one purple shirt in a sea of red. With Curry hitting that big three with 54 seconds left to cut Kansas’ lead to two, it seemed like the momentum had shifted in Davidson’s favor. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, the game ended on a desperation heave from Jason Richards in the final seconds after Curry was double-teamed and was forced to pass it off. Read More »

The least funny people on the planet are wacky “morning zoo” radio DJs. This is almost certainly a fact. Right behind them might local sports anchors who think that their schtick is hilarious. Case in point: A local Sacramento sports anchor named Jim Crandell, AKA “The Scoopmeister,” thought it would be hilarious to tweet the following prior to yesterday’s 10 p.m. newscast:
“Coming up in my show at 10 p.m. David Stern makes the announcement no Kings fan wants to hear.” Read More »

Joakim Noah hasn’t exactly blown fantasy owners away with his lines since returning from his thumb injury. In his nine games back, Noah’s averaging 9.4 points, 11.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.6 steals, 1.2 blocks and 2.3 turnovers. With Carlos Boozer sidelined with a sprained ankle, Noah should get some opportunities in the coming handful of games to approach his averages during the first 15 games of the season, when Boozer was also out. During that initial stretch of the season, Noah averaged 15.6 points, 13.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.5 blocks and 2.1 turnovers. If he can stay out of foul trouble, expect Noah to thrive in his next few games. Read More »
Before the season, it was a foregone conclusion. Miami. Boston. One of those two teams was going to play the L.A. Lakers in the Finals for the right to David Stern’s heart. The talk wouldn’t die, and never did throughout much of this season as the Heat and Celtics rolled and even as the Lakers stumbled.
