This is where it starts to really get good. The Sweet 16. It’s just a moniker, but it means so much more. You make the Sweet 16 and jobs are safe, at least for the most part. You make the Sweet 16 and the program is satisfied. The ones who aren’t satisfied? They win titles.
With four games tipping off tonight (why we have all day and yet the games are overlapping, that’s a whole other topic, but don’t even get me started…), take a look back at some of the best Sweet 16 games of the decade. Hopefully, maybe one of the games tonight will find its way onto this list next year. Read More »

After reading Smack this morning, loyal reader Rodney Taurice pointed out that we missed a huge play last night in the Clippers/Wizards game where JaVale McGee (at least one time), put a stop to Blake Griffin‘s personal dunk exhibition.
We think we’re uncomfortable watching this. Read More »
So, here’s the course that the pulse of New York has taken since the Knicks acquired Carmelo Anthony in exchange for everyone not named Amar’e Stoudemire one month ago: It started with, “We got ‘Melo! We might win the first of many guaranteed titles this season!” Then that quickly downshifted to something along the lines of, “Wow, this team might need some time to figure out how play together on both ends of the floor before we win our titles.” Then, as the losses began to mount, it turned to anger and boos and complaints of their team playing zero defense. Then last night, after dropping another one at home, this time to the Orlando Magic, the boos at the final buzzer were delivered with the same zeal that best describes the way New York plays D – half-hearted at best … Read More »
You thought last night’s triple overtime thriller between the Lakers and Suns was good? It got me thinking about some of the best triple-overtime games I’ve seen in the last few years and this one immediate stands out. This Boston/Chicago series had everything you could ask for with nearly every game, every possession, up for grabs. But this Game 6 win by Chicago in triple extra sessions was the ultimate high. Perhaps these two will meet up again and repeat this in the Eastern Conference Finals this year.

If you’re a 6-0, 180-pound, Wall Street intern, having pro dreams to play in the NBA may not seem like the most realistic of goals. Just don’t tell that to Brian Kortovich. Having got his start on the hard-court as a youngster in Cleveland, Ohio, Brian quickly rose the ranks to become one of the best young talents in the city. Read More »
If you’ve been away on Spring Break drinking at the beach, you probably expected to return to see the New York Knicks reeling off victories, building their clout heading into a potentially magical playoff run, right? Unfortunately that has not been the case. With Monday night’s heartbreaking 10-point loss to the Celtics at home, the Knicks dropped to 35-35. Following the game, Ray Allen took a jab at New York’s new star-studded cast saying, “They’ve got great one-on-one players.” Was Ray-Ray insinuating that the Knicks might have been better off with their old squad?
