Amar’e Stoudemire: Pau Gasol Is Still A Softie

Pau Gasol probably thought he was finally finished hearing it. But no, Amar’e Stoudemire came and brought the old flame back. And then Andrew Bynum had to start calling people out on Twitter. “He’s…he’s still soft,” STAT said about Gasol during an appearance this weekend with Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg.

Bynum saw the video and came back at the Knicks’ All-Star, tweeting in response: The NBA is a weird place! How can a man that plays 0 defense call a 2 time champion soft? @wheretheydothatat

There’s nothing better in this world than a good ol-fashioned brouhaha on Twitter. The Lakers must be warming up for the playoffs with all of these Twitter beefs. Still, this one was warranted. Honestly, we bet Stoudemire wishes he could take back those words. He obviously believes them, but in the court of public opinion, he sounds really stupid considering he has zero rings (Gasol has two) and his rebounding numbers from the past three seasons are dwarfed by Gasol’s.

Is Amar’e right? Is Gasol still soft?

No way the Dream was soft!! U assholes!

The Man regularly observed Ramadan and played at his customary highest level without eating OR drinking!

    Fuck Hakeem haters!

Great point S-SiN. I forgot about that. How does a man fast, but dominate like Hakeem did. If I miss one frikkin meal and stand up too quickly, I get dizzy. Hakeem was a tank.

“No way the Dream was soft!! U assholes!” <– LMAO!

I guess maybe Amar’e was giving himself a compliment, then? He looks at Pau and figures, “well, that dude plays soft and he’s a 2 time NBA Champ. Maybe if everyone thinks it’s ok to be soft, they’ll accept me for who I am. A 6’10″ Easter Bunny.”

I’m about as obsessed as anyone here as obsessed with Amare Stoudemire’s underachieving board work? His whole career I’ve always pondered why is a guy THAT athletic, strong, quick, and big not able avg 10 rebs a game ever in his career? Almost like a hybrid of Karl Malone and Shawn Kemp in body and style but he clearly lacks their innate rebounding numbers and work ethic.

He always sits in that annoying low 9s and high 8s reg avg range in virtually every season but can never ever climb into double digits no matter what is role or what’s expected of him. If you watch him closely in a game you see he doesn’t know the art of positioning or pursue or box out regularly which doesn’t help. But there’s something else I couldn’t put my finger on and John Salley might’ve answered it on his podcast.

Evidently Amare is a big weed-head (like most NBAers) according to Salley. And Spider said the amount of ganGa he smokes has mellowed his agression and drifted himself outside for a more deft jumpshot. It’s a theory but factor in D’Antoni’s absolute ignoramus mindset in the art of rebounding (a pt guard in NBA/NCAA), let alone D(that was Ryan) he’s more clueless than Alicia Silverstone. And it’s no secret ALL of D’Antoni’s Phoe teams were dreadful on the glass.

Amare was never called out by his coaches to step it up on the glass his whole career and now there’s no going back to the basics because the bad habits have gone on too long.
