If you haven’t checked out the The Andy & Landry Show yet, you’re missing out on comedic genius. So after getting their own theme song and attending a speed dating event for ladies who like tall guys, watch Knicks rookies Andy Rautins and Landry Fields visit Times Square and hang out with the one and only Naked Cowboy.
No one in the history of the NBA has ever been awarded the Defensive Player of the Year three consecutive seasons. Until now. Orlando’s Dwight Howard, fresh off an insane 46-point, 19-rebound performance in the Magic’s Game 1 loss to Atlanta, is set to become the first to ever do it as sources say he has once again been given the D.P.O.T.Y. The Magic will make the announcement official today during a 1:30 p.m. ET news conference. Read More »
Zach Randolph must’ve really impressed the Memphis brass’ during his Game 1 destruction of the Spurs.
As we mentioned in Smack this morning, Randolph and the Grizzlies have agreed to terms on an extension for the big man, worth $66 million in guaranteed money over four years. The final year of the deal is a player option, and Randolph also has an opportunity to make an extra $5 million in incentives. He is expected to officially sign the deal either today or tomorrow. Unlike Major League Baseball, there is a salary cap in the NBA. And while having a large payroll doesn’t always equate to winning more games (see: the New York Knicks before this season), it’s more often than not the case. So that’s why Michael Jordan dropped some great news for Bobcats fans last week when he said that he will spend the money necessary to attract big-time free agents. Read More »
If this NBA postseason can keep up the weekend’s pace, it’ll be the most exciting playoff run we’ve ever seen. Yesterday, Boston and Memphis barely survived with wins, and did so courtesy of two mammoth threes from Ray Allen and Shane Battier.
We had heard this might be true. But now it’s official. Harrison Barnes, the ACC Rookie of the Year, will be coming back to Chapel Hill for another season, giving up a shot at the NBA to pursue a national championship and to continue to mature and improve his game at North Carolina. Read More »
If the first two days were any indication, we could be in for perhaps the craziest postseason yet. So far, every higher seed was either challenged or lost, and yesterday, two Western Conference powerhouses were on the receiving end of Joe Frazier hooks … Charles Barkley said during the pregame show that he is convinced the Spurs can’t even beat Memphis, their eight-seeded matchup, in the first round. We won’t go that far, especially with Manu Ginobili probably coming back soon. But one thing is certain: the Grizzlies are not playing. Read More »
They say superstars get you wins in the playoffs. On the first day of the second season, after watching Derrick Rose, Dirk Nowitzki, Dwight Howard and LeBron James, we agree. Sometimes basketball comes down to who’s playing better together, who has better chemistry, who’s moving the ball and making the extra pass and who’s playing more defense. And then other times, it just comes down to the beast. Whichever team has the bigger beast will win. In Chicago, Rose was so good, he had people conjuring up images of another former Bull who always seemed to close out l in the playoffs … Read More »
40 games in 40 nights is nearly here. It’s the best time of the year hands down (don’t talk to us about March Madness…we don’t even need reasons to refute that). The best athletes in the world going back and forth for games and weeks, Kobe vs. Chris Paul, LeBron vs. the world, Brian Scalabrine vs. Boston. Why settle for less? Of course, Dime had to hold you down with a couple of previews of the action going on this weekend. Ever wondered what your high school coach would say to someone about Dwight Howard’s free-throw shooting? What about that 40-year-old at the park who never quits talking? If you’re more of the serious type and want to know the difference makers, the guys your squad needs to be watching out for, then we’ve got you covered too … Read More »
