Ceremonial first pitches always have disaster potential, even if you are the man. It’s nothing like little league and there are a lot of people waiting for you to look ridiculous.
Kemba Walker though, as we know, isn’t fazed by pressure. Last night at Yankee Stadium, Walker threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Yankees/Orioles game. And while it may not have been a clear strike, Kemba did a pretty good job. Read More »
It’s a wonderful thing when there is one meaningful game that affects the playoff picture on the season’s final night. But do you know what’s better? When there are six. After a regular season that was spine-tingling like ice cream cake on your birthday, we still had five Western Conference seeds in play on the 2010-11 regular season swan song. And oh yeah, that whole potential-to-have-definite-home-court-in-the-Finals may have also been on the line. No big deal … Read More »
For a while now, the Seattle/Tacoma area hasn’t just become a hoops hotbed for elite players – Brandon Roy, Aaron Brooks and Washington’s Isaiah Thomas to name a few – it’s also been home to a diverse and talented hip hop underground. It’s an inner circle that Tacoma resident, Zach Powers, aka Rockwell Powers, is now a vibrant member of. Did you see the change in Dwight Howard? You should have. His numbers and impact this season have been MVP-worthy, going for 23 points and 14.1 rebounds a game while helping to keep the Magic as one of the best defenses in the NBA. But it isn’t just that he’s become a better player. He’s been a different player with a different attitude. Howard has smiled less and tried to quiet the fun in his game. He’s gotten into shouting matches with his teammates probably as often this season as in his first six years combined. Plus, there are those 18 technical fouls. Read More »
Beast of the Night:Pau Gasol put up 17 points, 17 rebounds, five assists and a block last night. He shot 58 percent (7-12) from the field, 75 percent (3-4) from the free-throw line and had no turnovers. Gasol averaged top-five numbers throughout the season, despite many of his statistics dropping a bit from their marks in 2009-10. He should have a few more years of elite fantasy basketball in him.
