Dallas and the Thunder must be fuming right now. We would be. With the Lakers reeling, losers of five games in a row, the Spurs had the chance to sneak into L.A. and deliver another crucial blow to the two-time defending champions’ home-court advantage hopes. It was the perfect setup. Or at least, it would’ve been had Gregg Popovich cooperated and played his big guns. But as nice as it was for the Lakers to finally get a win, how costly was it? Andrew Bynum hyperextended his knee and there’s no telling just how long he will be out. Stormy clouds ahead in Los Angeles … Read More »
It’s hard these days to get away from the Chicago Bulls. That happens when you have the likely MVP, recently locked-up the number-one seed in the Eastern Conference and have looked like the best team in the NBA for much of the second half of the season.
At this point, expectations for Chicago have gone through the roof. What was entirely out of the question – a championship – even so short as six months ago, is now a viable goal. They have virtually everything you need: a superstar, a great coach, a supporting cast that defends, plays team basketball and doesn’t care about individual accolades and a defensive structure that will carry them when all else fails. But there is one glaring thing missing: experience as a unit. Read More »
No, Indiana probably doesn’t have much of a chance to win a playoff series this spring. But that won’t stop some of their players from speculating. Say what you want about Indiana’s Danny Granger, but he spoke his mind yesterday. Granger told Mike Wells of IndyStar.com that playing against the Celtics, no matter how creaky they might be right now, is a whole lot worse than playing against a Bulls team where everything revolves around one player.Read More »
With the regular season winding down, the NBA graced us today with their first commercial spot for the 2011 NBA Playoffs. As they put it, “We always hear from the folks in suits and jerseys…the players, coaches, analysts…but when was the last time you heard directly from the basketball? After all, what would this great game be without it?” We think you’ll like what you see.
It seems like a million different versions of the Nike Hyperdunk 2010 have dropped this year, but I don’t hear anyone complaining. And I must say, I like this version personalized for Dirk Nowitzki a lot. Maybe it’s the Mavs colorway, or maybe it’s his “Dirk 41″ logo on the tongue, but either way I like it. I hear you. Don’t worry, I hear you. I can see why people dislike the “arrogant,” “egotistical,” “maniacal” athlete that makes excuses when he loses and struts when he wins. The Decision…to hate? Or to hate even harder? My question though, is why?
Some time ago, someone opened my eyes. You hate because you love he told me. Honestly, for a while that never made sense. It still doesn’t totally register. But I’m trying to figure out why I’m drawn to people who might have me rolling my eyes if I was around them all the time. It’s entertainment, but it’s more than that. Read More »
Look familiar? Just like what Kemba Walker did to 6-11 Gary McGhee in the Big East Tournament, D.J. Augustin did to 7-0 Brook Lopez last night. It doesn’t get prettier than this.
Yesterday, Baylor freshman forward/center Perry Jones III – a would be damn near Top-5 lock in this June’s NBA Draft – declared publicly that he would return to school for his sophomore year.
In his first year in Waco, Jones dropped in 13.9 points and 7.2 boards a game on 55 percent shooting for the 18-13 Bears. With Jones returning, Coach Scott Drew and company now have a loaded and talented young core slated for next season. Read More »
Normally you don’t see ankles broken with the game on the line, but this time Michael Beasley does just that to Jared Dudley. But after tying the game, Beasley missed the free throw, and Phoenix went on to win in OT.
