As a diehard Nets fan growing up, some of my favorite memories as a child are watching the Nets of the 2000s. With Jason Kidd running the show those teams were incredibly exciting and while Kidd, Kenyon Martin, Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter were the stars of those teams at various points, there was another player who was a constant on those perennial playoff squads: Jason Collins. Tony Allen doesn’t play games. Yet after seeing Manu Ginobili out there for the past two clashes between Memphis and San Antonio, Allen is convinced the Spurs’ swingman is having his own little fun with his reported elbow injury.
Ginobili scored 17 and 23 points respectively in the series’ last two games. He made some game-changing plays in the Spurs’ Game 2 win, fighting through a few instances where it appeared the elbow was giving him trouble. Read More »
It’s kind of hard to get your head around the idea, but maybe everyone really did forget about Chris Paul. Not too long ago, he was being talked about as one of the greatest point guards ever to play the game and now, he’s reclaimed his mojo against the two-time defending champs. CP might’ve even topped his Game 1 performance by coming through with a legendary triple-double (27 points, 13 rebounds, 15 assists). This routine of the Lakers losing close games is starting to get worrisome. We can’t even remember the last time they were in this position and pulled out a tough win. They came out quick, but from then on, and especially in the second half, Paul answered everything. Read More »
Thursday night hadn’t been a coronation for Brandon Roy. Apparently, it was just a warm-up. His fourth-quarter takeover last night was the real finale, the finishing touch. It was sublime. Portland looked dead. Midway through the third quarter, the Rose Garden was silent and the Blazers were letting the Mavs swipe their dessert. A 3-1 deficit was sitting squarely in front of their faces before Roy stepped out of a season-long swoon and saved the day … Read More »
The Knicks quit, getting blown out at home by 17 to fall behind 3-0 to Boston. They did; you can’t deny it. They were lazy with the ball, lazy on defense and gave no resistance to the Celtics at all. Some people saw their two close losses in Boston as a positive. They should’ve won at least one game. But in actuality, it seems like those two losses just took New York’s heart. And when you’re playing Bill Walker, Shawne Williams and Jared Jeffries big minutes, your heart better be huge … Read More »
So you think you’re going to end up in a new city with a new team next year? So what? That happens all the time with dozens of players and it happens all over the country. But if you’re a Nuggets fan, you have to ask yourself, why J.R.?
Why now and why like this? Of course, if J.R. Smith wasn’t J.R. Smith, people probably wouldn’t care. Look at his numbers: in the playoffs, he’s getting a dozen minutes a game and contributing 5.5 points on 29 percent from the field. If this wasn’t the mercurial Smith we were talking about, no one would care. No one should care with those numbers. Now with starting two guard Arron Afflalo set to return in Game 3, Smith may not see the floor at all. Read More »
With prospects still making up their collective minds left and right, it’s been hard to get a handle on just how talented this draft class will be. While some youngsters have decided to head back to school, others are keen on testing the NBA waters now. And while we shined a more unknown spotlight on Northwestern’s John Shurna, the group also added a likely Lottery pick to the mix yesterday. Thursday afternoon in Boulder, Colo., Buffs’ sophomore Alec Burks officially declared for the Draft and says he will sign with an agent. Read More »
